![]() Chapter 6
“So tell me Sheridan” Luis asked curiously. “What is going on with you tonight?”
Sheridan laughed slightly as she thought about how silly this really was. “Luis, this really is kind of embarrassing” she said.
“Angel, you know you can tell me anything” Luis assured her.
Sheridan looked into Luis' beautiful brown eyes and saw the look of pure love and innocence. Luis was right and she knew it. She could tell him anything.
“Luis, you've been absolutely wonderful with me. Listening to me scream, cry and whine. You're probably the most caring man on this earth and I love you for it, but earlier when you were massaging my leg in order to warm it up, you were driving me absolutely insane!”
Luis was now the one that was embarrassed. “Oh!” he chuckled. “I'm sorry Sheridan. I didn't mean to do that.”
“Luis, I know you didn't” Sheridan said soothingly taking his hands in her own. “You were just trying to help me. To help make the pain go away and warm me up. I know that and love you for it.”
“That explains that intense kiss then” Luis grinned.
Sheridan blushed. “I guess so. I suddenly has this overwhelming urge to kiss you. Every part of you” she laughed.
“I have that same urge every time I see you” Luis said wriggling his eyebrows.
“I know” Sheridan replied demurely. “But this was a little different. It was just like that time at the Book Café.”
“That time at the Book Café?” Luis asked, his curiosity piqued.
“Right, I never told you about that” Sheridan chuckled, now completely embarrassed. Luis knew by her expression this was going to be good, so he leaned in closer, smiling at her.
“Come on Sheridan, out with it!” Luis encouraged.
“All right” she said. “Do you remember when I dropped your coffee mug at the Book Café? You checked my bandage and found my cut was infected?”
“Yeah, I remember” Luis said, nodding his head but not sure how this had anything to do with her infected cut.
“Eve was about to dress it and was called away and asked you to do it?”
“I remember that too” Luis smiled at the memory. “If I recall I became your personal bandage changer.”
“Did you ever!” Sheridan laughed. “Do you remember what you did that day when you changed my dressing?”
Luis was at a loss. He had no idea what she was referring to. “I'm sorry Angel. I'm not sure what you mean?”
Sheridan demonstrated for Luis exactly what he'd done for her by blowing gently on his neck and ear, making sure she had the same effect on him, he had on her that day.
Luis giggled slightly from the way her breath tickled and within seconds, knew exactly what she was talking about. “I think understand now” he smiled. “If I did to you anything like what you just did to me…”
“Well you did, Luis,” she said. “After that, I couldn't stop thinking about it, about you and the way you made me feel. I never knew from one bandage change to the next what you were going to do. Sometimes you'd only wave your hand instead of blowing on it. You had me about nuts. I even had a dream about it.”
“You had a dream about me changing your dressing?” Luis asked with a sexy smile.
“Yes, I did. It was the night you went to see the Boss.”
**Flashback**
“Coming!” Sheridan said as she scrambled from her couch to open the front door to her cottage. As she opened the door she was surprised to see Luis standing there with a sexy grin on his face. It was a smile that made her weak at the knees.
“Luis!” Sheridan exclaimed. “I thought you were at the concert with Jay and your buddies?”
“I was Sheridan” Luis told her, “but the concert is over and now I'm here with you. I told you I'd come by to check on you when the concert was over.”
“Yes, you did” Sheridan laughed nervously. She invited Luis inside and noticed he carried a paper bag under his arm. “What's in the bag?” She asked as curiosity got the best of her.
“Oh this?” Luis asked holding out the bag for her to see. “Nothing really. I thought I'd change your bandage since I promised Eve I'd do it twice a day.”
“Of course” Sheridan smiled. “Where would you like me Doctor?”
“Right here on the couch will be fine Sheridan” Luis answered her with an affable grin.
Sheridan took her place on the couch and waited for “Doctor Luis” to perform his duties. She closed her eyes as he gently pulled the silky tape away from her delicate skin. It pulled a little, but Luis' magical touch kept her from feeling any real pain.
She did feel the stinging when he cleansed the area off with alcohol. She closed her eyes and grimaced at the needle like sensation that she was currently feeling.
“Does that burn Sheridan?” Luis asked in a concerned voice.
“A little” she admitted.
“Don't worry, I'll take care of it” Luis assured her. Luis moved in closer to her and lowered his head to her neck. He gently began to blow on the area.
Sheridan gasped when Luis' warm breath slowly tickled her neck sending shivers through her body. Tiny goose bumps formed on the nape of her neck.
“How is that Sheridan?” Luis asked. “Where is your pain now on a scale of 1-10?”
Sheridan smiled. “You brought it all the way down from an 8 to a 1. Thank you.”
“Oh Sheridan” Luis said, “You shouldn't have to be in any pain at all. Let me see if I can take care of that for you.”
Sheridan nodded and braced herself for another breath to relieve her discomfort. This time, instead of a warm breath on her neck, she felt Luis' hot breath blowing very slowly in her ear. She heard herself gasp out loud as the sensation of Luis's breath sent her entire nervous system into overdrive. Her heart began to race and her breathing quickened considerably. Instead of just blowing once, he did it several times, which further intensified her reaction. Just when she didn't think she could take it anymore he stopped.
“So Sheridan” Luis said in a gravelly voice, “do you feel better now?” Sheridan turned to face him and saw a look of wanting in his eyes that caused her heart to catch in her throat. She found she couldn't speak, so she just nodded.
Luis smiled, that killer smile, never breaking eye contact. “Good” he replied, his voice thick with desire, the back of his hand now slowly caressing her face. He leaned back in and whispered in her ear, “Sheridan I want to make love to you…”
**End Flashback**
Sheridan was beet red by the time she finished relaying her dream to Luis. Luis found the whole idea quite endearing. “Well Angel, I'm touched that you were dreaming about me back then, too” Luis smiled. “And I want you to know that I do want to make love to you. More than anything I've ever wanted in my life. Except of course for marrying you which is the most important thing in the world to me.”
“You always know what to say to make me feel better” Sheridan smiled. “So, tell me Luis, what kind of dreams did you have about me?”
Luis thought back to the dream he had after he and Sheridan played pool and he immediately blushed.
“It must be good to get a reaction out of you like that” Sheridan remarked.
There was a knock at the door and Luis was grateful for the distraction. “That must be Eve” Luis said. “I'd better get it.”
*******************
Scott poured himself a cup of coffee when he finished washing the dishes from dinner. Scott was a proclaimed bachelor and even though he'd lived alone for most of his life, he found there was no reason not to clean up after himself. He'd been to “bachelor pads” that were overrun with empty beer and soda cans as well as take out containers topping nearly every surface. That was not his idea of a way to live. Even though he was alone most of the time, Scott always cooked himself a nutritious meal when he got home from work each night.
“Time for the nightly email” he said to himself walking over to the computer in his office. Scott's condo was a modest three bedroom and he turned one of the bedrooms into a home office shortly after he'd moved in. He had a good head for business and soon after opening his electronics store he was able to purchase his own condo in a fairly nice neighborhood. Prior to that, Scott lived in an efficiency in a neighborhood subject to nightly break-ins. Moving was utmost on his mind the minute he'd saved the money for a new place to live.
Nightly email was probably the thing Scott detested most. He'd given as much of that chore as possible to trusted employees, Michael now dealing with most of it. There were still certain customers he needed to deal with personally, so he decided he'd do it once a day from home. Scott preferred spending as much time during the day overseeing the operations on the sales floor, not stuck in an office at his computer.
Scott scanned his inbox and was pleased to see there wasn't much he had to deal with tonight. It had been a long day and he wasn't looking forward to this particular chore tonight. Diligently, as was his nature, he read each email and responded accordingly. He smiled to himself when he finished and realized it'd only taken him 30 minutes.
“Now that's a record!” He chuckled to himself. Just as he was about to sign off, he noticed there was something that had just arrived in his inbox. “I guess I spoke too soon” he said shaking his head.
Scott clicked on his inbox and saw the incoming mail was from CAdreaming. “I think that's Detective Jay Jordan” he said with a sly grin. No longer irritated by email, Scott opened the note.
Hi Scott,
I appreciate you getting back to me so quickly. The guys at the station said you and your store were the best and so far it looks to me like they were telling the truth.
I can't believe that I forgot to include the computer's serial number along with all of the other information that I sent. I'm usually so thorough and detail-oriented. Maybe it is something about your store that throws me off my normal rhythm. In any case, I'll list the serial number at the end of this email.
Changing the subject for a second, I want to say "THANK YOU VERY MUCH" for the roses. It wasn't necessary for you to send them because I was just doing my job. That said, however, the roses were a pleasant surprise and they are still quite lovely. My office at the station smells heavenly now. I hope you won't mind, but I decided not to tell the others that you sent the flowers - I just didn't want to subject either of us to their particular brand of humor about such things, plus it kind of fun knowing something that they all don't know, you know. LOL
I'm grateful for your assistance in obtaining the CD burner and for taking care of me personally. I feel like a special customer getting the store owner's attention like this.
J.
Scott grinned after reading Jay's note. He wasn't sure what it was, but suddenly his mood was much lighter than it had been all day. Scott copied the serial number down Jay had provided and quickly cross referenced it with the catalogue he kept at his desk. Sure enough his store had several models in stock that would fit her computer. Scott knew which one he would go with if it was his computer, but he thought allowing Jay to make that decision was the best idea.
With Jay's crazy schedule in mind, Scott had a thought and decided to return her email and run the idea by Jay tonight.
********************
“Dr. Russell” Luis smiled, opening the door allowing Eve to enter the cottage. “Thank you for stopping by this late.”
“No problem, Luis” Eve replied as she walked over to the couch where Sheridan lay. “Now, tell me again what happened?”
Sheridan smiled slightly as she explained how she fell of the stool in the kitchen. She did however leave out the part about re-twisting her knee afterwards on the couch.
Sheridan grimaced as Eve examined her swollen knee. Eve saw her facial expression and knew she was in pain. After she was finished with her examination, she replaced the icepack on her knee and stood up to rend her diagnosis.
“You'll be happy to know it's not broken, Sheridan” Eve announced. “But you do have a severe sprain and you need to stay completely off it for the next few days.”
Sheridan was relieved it wasn't broken, but she suddenly realized she had a trip scheduled to New York for tomorrow afternoon. “A few days? Eve, I'm going to New York tomorrow to find a wedding dress!”
“I heard about your engagement” Eve smiled. “Congratulations to both of you. I know you're on a tight schedule with the wedding being in two months, but you're not going anywhere tomorrow, Sheridan” Eve said flatly. “If you walk on that leg you could do permanent damage to it and I don't think you want to do that, now do you?”
“No, of course not Dr. Russell” Sheridan said, disappointment clearly in her voice.
“You can go on your trip next weekend” Eve suggested. “One week shouldn't make a difference, should it?”
“No, I suppose not” Sheridan reluctantly agreed.
“I'm recommending complete bed rest until Sunday” Eve said. “I'll come back then and we can discuss a light exercise regime to strengthen your knee and you should be able to resume light activities by next weekend.”
“But the Youth Center…” Sheridan started to protest.
“Buzzy and I can handle the after school kids until you're back on your feet Angel” Luis smiled.
Sheridan knew she was defeated. “This is going to be the longest week of my life,” she said.
“Sheridan, do you have someone who can stay with you for a few days?” Eve asked. “When I said complete bed rest, I meant it. The only time I want you out of bed is to go to the bathroom and you'll need help getting there as well.”
“I'll stay here with Sheridan” Luis offered.
“Luis, you're working double shifts all weekend” Sheridan reminded him. “You can't stay with me.”
Luis was about to protest when they heard another knock on the door. “Who on earth?” He said glancing at his watch. Luis got up and went to the door wondering who would be visiting Sheridan at this late hour. He peered through the door and a smile appeared on his face.
Quickly Luis opened the cottage door. “Marianna!” He said as he engulfed his aunt in a huge bear hug.
“Luis, it is good to see you mijo” Marianna smiled. She looked over at the couch and saw Sheridan lying there with her leg elevated and an ice pack on her knee. “Sheridan! What happened to you?”
“Marianna, it's so good to see you! Sheridan said happily. She moved slightly as if making an attempt to rise and was quickly reminded why she was on the couch when she felt the pain shoot through her knee.
“Sheridan fell off a stool in the kitchen and sprained her knee” Luis explained. “And she's been put on strict bed rest until Sunday.”
“You poor dear” Marianna sympathized. “It looks like our trip to New York will have to wait until your knee has had time to heal.”
“I told Sheridan she could probably go next weekend” Eve smiled. “Now her problem is finding someone to stay with her at least until Sunday.”
“I'm sure I can get the time off from the station” Luis started to say.
“But Luis, you volunteered to work the overtime this weekend” Sheridan replied.
“Yeah, but that was before you injured yourself. I can't leave you here like this.”
“Nonsense, Luis” Marianna said. “I can stay here with Sheridan. Pilar wanted me to stay with your family, but I'm sure she would understand if I stayed with Sheridan. Certainly she wouldn't want you missing work if it can be helped.”
“Are you sure you don't mind?” Luis asked.
“Mind? Are you serious? I'd be more than happy to stay with Sheridan. It will give us some quality time together as well as time to go over wedding plans. After all, that is why I am here. To help the bride with whatever she needs.”
“This is too kind of you Marianna” Sheridan said appreciatively.
Marianna smiled and gently hugged Sheridan. She decided to return to Pilar's to get her things and told Sheridan she'd be back as soon as possible. Eve too decided she'd done what she could and it was time to leave. She gave Sheridan instructions for taking care of her knee as well as leaving her with a prescription for a pain killer and a few pills to get her through the night.
Luis carried Sheridan to her bedroom and helped her get under the covers. “I'm glad Marianna will be staying with you” Luis said as he fluffed Sheridan's pillows, helping her get comfortable. “But I do have a confession to make.”
“A confession, huh?” Sheridan asked with an impish grin.
“Yeah” Luis said sheepishly. “I was kind of looking forward to staying here with you. The idea of waking up in the next room from you was quite appealing.”
“Not as appealing as waking up in the same room” Sheridan said slyly.
Luis laughed. “Always the temptress aren't you?”
Sheridan wrapped her arms around Luis' shoulders. “Very soon my love, we will wake up like that every morning.” She pulled Luis into a heated kiss.
“Soon, Sheridan” Marianna grinned, “but not tonight. Tonight you need your rest.”
Luis and Sheridan quickly parted. “Marianna! I didn't realize you were back” Sheridan said, her cheeks flushed.
“I noticed” she replied mischievously. “Thank you for helping Sheridan to her room, Luis.”
“No problem” Luis smiled. He knew by the look on Marianna's face that she was about to throw him out, so he decided he'd leave before that happened. “Well Angel, now that I know you'll be in good hands, I think I'm going to get going. It's pretty late.”
“Will you stop by tomorrow night after work?” Sheridan asked.
“You know I will” Luis said kissing her forehead. “And I'll email you every chance I get.”
“Good” Sheridan smiled happily.
Luis leaned in and kissed Sheridan tenderly on the lips. It was a slow passionate kiss that neither one wanted to end. They finally broke apart when they heard Marianna clearing her throat.
“I love you” Luis said as he got up from her bed, still holding Sheridan's hands in his.
“I love you too” Sheridan smiled adoringly at her fiancé. Unable to resist, Luis gave Sheridan one more quick kiss for the road. Marianna couldn't help but smile as she watched these two. They were so in love, so happy. Marianna was thrilled that her nephew found a woman such as Sheridan. Sheridan was one of the most beautiful women she knew inside and out and she wanted nothing less for her new nephew. As for Sheridan, Luis was her dream come true. Marianna knew how long Sheridan dreamed of true love and was delighted that she finally found a man worthy of her love.
***************
Jay finished with her normal nightly Internet activities and decided she'd write a quick note to Sheridan and Luis and see how the wedding plans were going. When she went back into her mailbox she noticed she had an incoming email. She was shocked when she saw the note was from Scott. She never expected a response so quickly. Eagerly Jay clicked on the note and began to read.
Hi Jay,
You are most welcome for the flowers. I'm glad they brightened your day as well as your office. I've been to the Beverly Hills PD and they certainly didn't use a decorator from the area. Someone as nice as you deserves a little cheeriness now and then.
I cross referenced the serial number you gave me and found several different CD burners that will fit your computer. I know you're extremely busy at work during the day and we close at 5:00, but I really would like to show you the selection we have. If you'd like, I can make arrangements to stay at the store late one evening so you can see the burners yourself. I'd also be happy to install it for you if you choose to purchase one.
You don't need to answer me right away. Think about it and drop me a line when you decide. I'll be happy to meet you anytime, so let me know when, if you decide to meet me.
Scott
P.S. I don't blame you one bit about those guys at the station. While the ones I know are great people, I also know what kind of ribbing can go on. Trust me, it'll be our little secret ;-)
Jay couldn't keep the grin off her face as she read Scott's email. “How sweet is that? He's willing to stay late just to accommodate my crazy work schedule.” Jay thought about emailing Scott right away and telling him she'd love to meet him, but she needed to figure out which day would be best, not to mention she didn't want to appear too eager. “I'll email him tomorrow” she said to herself as she shut down the computer. Her smile continued as she walked off towards her bedroom. She hoped to have sweet dreams tonight.
********************
“Thanks Marianna” Sheridan smiled as she positioned herself comfortably in bed with her laptop computer in front of her.
“You're welcome Sheridan” Marianna smiled. “Don't stay on there too late. You need your rest, remember?”
“I know” Sheridan smirked. “I just wanted to send a quick email to Luis. I send one every night before I go to bed.”
“All right then. We'll go over all the plans for the wedding tomorrow. Good night.”
“Good night and thank you for staying with me” Sheridan said.
It's my pleasure Sheridan” Marianna smiled and then retreated to the living room.
Sheridan signed on to her laptop, anxious to send an email to Luis. She found herself yawning incessantly as she waited for the computer to sign on. She was also starting to get a little dizzy, as she'd taken one of the painkillers Eve had given her. Once she was connected, Sheridan typed her note to Luis. Satisfied with what she's written, she logged off and went to sleep with a smile on her face knowing she'd be dreaming of the man she loved.
****************
Everyone was asleep when Luis returned home. He quietly stole into his room and went immediately over to his computer to send Sheridan a note; hopefully before she went to bed. He smiled when he realized she'd beaten him to the punch.
My darling Pezz,
You've only been gone a few minutes and I already miss you terribly. I still can't believe my luck with falling off that stool. I should have just offered you a real nightcap. Hmm, I wonder what we'd be doing now if I had!
Luis laughed out loud at her remark. This woman never gave up. He was almost glad he was working double shifts as staying away form her was getting more difficult by the day.
I'm sorry about that last remark my love. I took one of those pills Eve left for me and it's making me a little giddy. I really just wanted to say thank you for taking such good care of me. No one is as wonderful to me as you are.
I love you Pezz. Sweet dreams. I know my dreams will be sweet as I'll be dreaming of you.
KCGirl
“I love you too, Sheridan” Luis whispered. “More than I can ever tell you.”
Luis quickly sent a reply and then went to bed himself. It was going to be a long weekend.
