![]() Chapter 11
Tina and Sheridan arrived at the Crane Cabin. Sheridan glanced at the clock on the wall and noticed it was six ten. “Oh good, it only took us 20 minutes to get here, Sheridan announced. She took the packages she'd picked up from the Lobster Shack and brought them into the kitchen.
She started frantically unpacking the boxes, when Tina stepped in to help. “Let me do this, Sheridan. You go get ready.”
“Thank you Tina!” Sheridan said appreciatively. She started towards the shower and then doubled back and walked up to Tina. She gave her a hug and said, “Thank you Tina for everything. There have been so many people in my life that have gone out of their way to keep me away from Luis. You are really the first person who has supported our effort.”
Tina hugged Sheridan and smiled. “You are very welcome. I know we met under very trying circumstances, but I am very glad I met both you and Luis.”
“I too am very glad we met” Sheridan grinned. “I bet even Luis would agree with that, even though he was the one behind bars.”
“Right!” Tina said laughing. “Now go get ready, Sheridan!” Tina ordered jokingly.
“Yes Ma'am!” Sheridan saluted, as she ran off to the other room to get ready.
*******************************
Luis finished getting dressed. He wasn't sure exactly what Sheridan had planned for this evening, so he decided he'd better look half way decent. He wore a pair of snug black pants, charcoal gray shirt and dark gray suit coat. He shoved a tie in his pocket; just in case, really hoping he wouldn't have to wear it. He was pretty sure Sheridan would have warned him if they were going someplace formal, however.
Luis was checked his appearance in the mirror once again, then looked at his watch. It was 6:45. Almost time to leave. “Not early and not late. Boy does she want a lot” he laughed to himself. Luis was trying to imagine where she would take him, hoping it wouldn't be someplace too crowded. He'd really liked the idea of the secluded area on the beach, but had to agree, it was definitely to cold to stay there at night. Not in May anyhow.
Luis walked downstairs and headed into the kitchen to leave a note for his mother, when he heard someone whistling at him. He turned around to see Theresa smiling at him in a way that made him blush.
“Whoa, Luis! You look hot tonight! Going somewhere special?” She teased.
“You don't give up do you Theresa?” Luis answered trying to hide his grin.
“Nope!” She announced proudly. “And I'm not going to either!”
Luis gave her a dirty look, followed by a kiss on the forehead.
“Is Sheridan coming home with you tonight?” Theresa asked pryingly. “Or maybe you aren't coming home tonight?”
“Theresa, look” Luis said, “Sheridan's cottage is still a crime scene so she can't go back there. For some reason, she won't stay in the mansion, so Mama and I invited her to stay here until her cottage is ready. That's all.”
“Whatever you say, Luis” Theresa said with feigned sincerity.
Luis knew there was no way he would win this argument, so he decided to just let it be. “Theresa, tell Mama I went out with Sheridan tonight and I don't know when I'll be home. Heck, I don't even know where we're going!” He laughed.
“Surprise date, huh?” Theresa asked grinning.
“Yeah” Luis answered nervously. “Now I have to meet Sheridan at the Book Cafe, so I'll see you later.” Luis quickly left his house and headed for the Book Cafe.

Antoine and Jake Stuart sat in the hospital room holding Roger and Pierre. Both were reading newspapers, occasionally glancing up at the prisoners. The nurses came and went, dispensing medications, changing dressings and over all caring for their patients. Roger and Pierre still had not uttered a sound since their capture. They made no attempt at escape or disrupting any form of the hospital routine.
Jake looked up from his newspaper and yawned. He stretched his arms and shook his head, trying to prevent sleep from taking over. This was not a good duty for someone who had not slept in 24 hours.
“Why don't you get a cup of coffee?” Antoine suggested.
Jake, who was extremely fatigued, agreed. “I could use one” he said. “Can I get you a cup as well?”
“Oui” Antoine answered. “Merci.”
Jake left the room and headed to the nurses' lounge where they were allowed to get coffee.
Antoine checked the door to make sure Jake was gone. Once satisfied, he went over to Roger. “Roger, are you well enough to travel?”
“Oui” Roger answered. “They are scheduled to come in at nine o'clock to give us sleeping pills. Pierre and I will make sure we do not swallow them. They will come and change my dressing at 10:00 and the change of shift is at 11:00. The night nurse will come in at 11:30 to check us and then we will not be disturbed for several hours.
“You will check our shackles when the dressing change is complete. We will give you the sleeping pills at that time. At 11:00 you will go get coffee and slip the pills into the Interpol agents coffee. He will become very sleepy when the night nurse makes rounds, but still awake. We will wait until he is sleeping soundly and then make our escape through the window. The double dose of sleeping pills should knock him out for several hours. If everything goes as I plan, we will have a very good start before we are discovered missing.” Roger finished explaining the plan just as the door opened. Antoine jumped back from the bed and bolted toward the door to help Jake open it.
“Thanks” Jake said, handing Antoine a cup of coffee.
“No, thank you” Antoine answered with a smile.

Luis nervously grabbed the small package on the seat next to him and stuffed it in his pocket. He then climbed out of his car and walked into the Book Cafe. He looked around for Sheridan, but didn't see her anywhere. He looked at his watch. It was exactly 7:00. He was just about to grab a seat and wait, when he felt someone tap him on the shoulder.
Luis turned around and was a little surprised to see Tina standing there. “Tina?” He said in surprise, “Where's Sheridan?”
“It seems as if I am to play chauffeur tonight. Sheridan asked me if I could bring you to the cabin.”
“Cabin?” Luis asked inquisitively.
“Yes. Cabin. A nice cozy cabin secluded in the woods” Tina grinned. “Now if you will follow me, sir?” Tina said jokingly.
Luis laughed as he followed Tina to her car. “What on earth were you two up to today?” Luis asked as he got into Tina's car.
“Nothing much. We did some shopping, had some lunch, a little girl talk” she said as she started driving towards the cabin.
“You know Luis, I really like Sheridan. She's a lot of fun to be around” Tina said.
“She is fun, isn't she?” Luis grinned.
“It is ironic though” Tina said thoughtfully.
“What's ironic?” Luis questioned.
“Just that she never seems to have trouble putting you in your place, but she can't seem to do it with other people” Tina explained.
Luis laughed. “You're right about that. Who needed to be put in their place anyway?” He asked after thinking for a minute.
“Your friend Hank” Tina told him.
“Hank was bothering Sheridan?” Luis asked angrily. “What happened? What did he say?”
“Oh he was saying things like `I forgive you Sheridan for lying to me last night. I know why you did it. I know what you really want and don't worry, I'll be the one to give it to you.' Stuff like that” Tina explained. “Sheridan was completely unnerved by the whole ordeal. I can't say that I blame her though. He was acting like a man obsessed. He had a very eerie look about him.”
Luis was furious. “Did he hurt her?” He asked.
“No, I stopped that from happening” Tina said proudly. “Just as we were about to leave, Hank grabbed her arm as if he wasn't going to let her leave, so I did the same thing. I grabbed his arm and twisted it behind his back. He didn't like that too much.”
Luis laughed. “I bet he didn't! Thanks Tina. I owe you.”
“Don't worry about it, Luis” Tina said. “It's over.”
“Maybe for tonight, but I doubt it's over for long” Luis said glumly.
“How so?” Tina asked.
“Hank and I have been best friends since we've been kids, but we are very different people. We want different things in life. We also have always been highly competitive in everything. Unfortunately for Hank, I usually win and he can't stand to lose. Especially to me.”
Tina listened carefully as Luis continued to explain about Hank.
“Anyway, Hank set his sights on Sheridan when she first came into town. She's beautiful and she's a Crane, which means she's loaded. Hank likes the high life and he saw Sheridan as his ticket. Sheridan went out with him a few times, but was never interested in him as anything but a friend. Last night, Hank found out that two of their dates were mix-ups. Sheridan wanted to be going out with me, not Hank, but didn't want to hurt his feelings, so she didn't tell him. He overheard her telling me. I was very glad to hear it, but Hank was furious.” Luis finished his story. He then added, “Hank has changed since he's been back in Harmony this time. He's a much angrier person and to tell you the truth, nothing he does would surprise me.”
“Wow!” Tina said. “You and Sheridan do have quite a few hurdles to get over, don't you?” Tina asked.
“We do at that!” Luis grinned.
“Well, here we are” Tina said as she pulled up in front of the cabin.
“Thanks, Tina” Luis said. He started to get out of the car when a thought occurred to him. “Hey, if you drop me off here, how are we going to get home?”
“Tina laughed and then gave Luis a raised eyebrow and knowing glance. “Sheridan said there's a car left here all the time for emergencies. Don't worry. She's not planning on holding you hostage, though I wouldn't blame her if she did.”
“Good night Tina” Luis grinned, trying to ignore her last remark.
“See you tomorrow, Luis” Tina said. She then drove off as Luis walked to the door of the cabin.
*******************************
Hank Bennett was sitting in his room at the B&B. He was listening to the radio, thinking about how he would get Sheridan back from Luis. He was totally lost in thought when his cell phone rang, causing him to jump slightly.
Hank picked up the phone. “Hello?... Yes, I meant it last night... 12:30?... You want me to meet you where?... I understand... Don't worry...I'll be there...yes...Tonight...” Hank shut his phone off. He stood up and began pacing the length of his room. “I wonder what they are up to?” He said. “I guess I'll find out tonight. I've done this before. It's not like it's new to me. I just have to get used to the idea that I'm going to become Jack Gallagher again. No one will ever have to know.”
Hank was talking out loud to himself, trying to convince himself he had no other choice. His mouth was saying the words, but there was a major conflict going on within.
****************************************
Sheridan heard the knock on the door and was suddenly very nervous. She checked herself in the mirror, then walked over to the door and opened it to find Luis standing there with his killer smile on his face. Sheridan smiled back as she felt her cheeks begin to get hot.
“Hi Luis” she said as she opened the door inviting him in.
Luis stood there for a minute, surveying her body. She was wearing a simple black dress with spaghetti straps that looked like it was made just for her. The dress fell just above her knees, which suited Luis just fine.
“Sheridan, you look fabulous!” Luis said, unable to take his eyes off her.
“Thank you” Sheridan said demurely. “You look pretty good yourself” she added as she admired him. She could smell his cologne (Passion for Men) and found it intoxicating.
Luis walked in and looked around at the rustic cabin. He saw a fire burning in the fireplace and a table nearby elegantly set for a romantic dinner.
“When did you have time to set this up, Sheridan?” Luis asked in amazement.
“I have a confession to make” Sheridan said slightly embarrassed. “I didn't do it. Tina did. She tossed me into the shower and when I came back, the cabin had been transformed into a restaurant. She is unreal Luis” Sheridan grinned appreciatively.
“She is at that” he returned.
“So Luis, Can I get you a glass of wine?” She asked.
“Sounds great” he smiled.
Sheridan walked into the kitchen and was about to pop the cork to the bottle when she felt a hand touch her own.
“Let me” he offered.
“Thank you” she said as her body tingled from his touch.
Luis expertly opened the wine and poured two glasses, handing one to Sheridan. Sheridan smiled sweetly in acknowledgement. Luis looked at Sheridan. His eyes staring into her very soul. “Here's to us Sheridan” he grinned. “A new beginning.” He gently touched his glass to hers.
“I'll definitely drink to that” Sheridan agreed quietly. The both took a sip of their wine.
“So is there anything I can do to help?” Luis asked.
“Actually there is, Luis” Sheridan said becoming quite flustered.
“Sure, what is it?” He asked noticing her demeanor.
“Please don't laugh when I ask you to do this” She implored, her face red and eyes downcast.
Luis curiosity was in full gear now. He found himself wanting to laugh now and he didn't even know what was supposed to be funny. He then saw the seriousness on Sheridan's face. He gently took her chin in his hand and lifted her face, so their eyes met. “I will never laugh at you, Sheridan” he said softly.
Sheridan was touched at his sincerity. She gave him a warm smile. “Thank you Luis” she said. She took a deep breath and exhaled. “Now if you would be so kind as to put the lobsters in the pot? I'll leave the room and you can get me when the screaming is over.”
He didn't know what to expect, but this wasn't it. He fought hard to stifle a grin. “You don't want to hear the lobsters scream?” He asked with as serious a face as he could find.
“I know this will sound silly to you Luis, but when I was a child, Ethan and I would often hang around in the kitchen. Whenever we had lobster, Ethan and cook would have lobster races on the floor. Then they'd tease the lobsters, making them suffer. They'd put them in the boiling water, pull them out and then put them back in again. Then Ethan would yell over at me `Hey Sheridan, did you hear that? Listen to that screaming!' He would laugh uncontrollably, as he knew it drove me insane. I couldn't eat lobster for years after.”
Sheridan paused for a minute, noting Luis' expression was one of interest and slight amusement, but he was by no means laughing. She continued. “Any way, many years later, my taste for lobster returned as long as I didn't have to pick it out of a tank or watch it succumb to its death. I forgot when I ordered these dinners in advance, the lobsters weren't cooked, or I would have ordered something else.”
“I'll put the lobsters in the pot Sheridan” Luis assured her. “I'm sorry Ethan traumatized you like that as a child” he said sympathetically.
“Thank you Luis” Sheridan said with a grateful smile. She turned and walked away. She opened the front door and walked out side, making sure she was far away from the cabin, not wanting to even hear the sound in her mind.
After a moment, Sheridan realized how chilly it really was outside. She wrapped her arms around herself and looked up towards the sky. It always amazed her how many more stars there seemed to be when she was away from town. She was just about to start walking again to warm up, when she felt a warm body wrap itself around her. She closed her eyes and smiled instinctively as she leaned into Luis. “Oh, this feels nice” she murmured.
“I agree” he said, as he gently swayed with Sheridan in his arms. “Not that I want to spoil this moment he said, “but the screaming is over and it's cold out here.”
“Not anymore, it isn`t” Sheridan said as she turned around to face Luis. Her eyes were dancing as she gazed at him in the starlit sky. The mere site of him in the moonlight staring back at her caused her body to feel warm all over despite the 40-degree weather. “But I'll go in anyway” she grinned.
By the time Luis and Sheridan were back in the cabin, the lobsters were finished. While Sheridan started to fix their plates, Luis asked, “Do you mind if I put on some music?”
“Of course not Luis” she answered. “Actually I'd love it if you did.”
Luis walked over to the stereo and thumbed through some cd's. “Look like someone was planning a wedding or something here” Luis grinned as he looked through the selections on the table.
“Ethan was probably up here with Gwen going through music for the wedding” Sheridan offered, not having a clue as to what really went on.
Luis nodded in agreement. He selected several cd's, placed them in their trays and hit the button. The first song came on and Luis walked back to the kitchen to see if he could do something for Sheridan. He heard `Crazy for You' start to play and said under his breath, “I'm crazy for you all right” Sheridan.”
“What was that Luis?” Sheridan asked.
“I just wanted to know what I can do to help?” He smiled.
“Everything's all set,” she said. “You can bring the wine to the table if you like?”
Luis happily obliged as he picked up the bottle of wine and brought it to the table. Sheridan lit the candles on the table and Luis walked over to the light switch and dimmed the lights. Sheridan smiled softly as she noticed the lights dimming. `This will truly be a romantic dinner' she thought to herself.
They both seated themselves at the table, finding it hard to take their eyes off one another. “I can't believe you did all this Sheridan” Luis said.
“Well, it may not be as much fun as a picnic at the beach, but it will certainly be much warmer,” she said with amusement.
“I don't know about that. We may have more fun here” he suggested with a glint in his eye.
Sheridan blushed at the thought.
Suddenly Luis' face became somewhat solemn. He smiled nervously as he reached into his coat pocket. “I almost forgot” he said with a faint laugh. “This is for you.” Luis handed Sheridan a small gift-wrapped box.
Chapter 12
“Oh, Luis,” Sheridan exclaimed as she took the box from him, “You shouldn't have!” She secretly was very pleased he had.
“Don't get too excited, Sheridan” he said grinning. “I'm only returning what was already yours. Just slightly altered.”
She felt like a little girl on Christmas morning as she carefully opened the small gift-wrapped package. She kept looking up at Luis, trying to find a clue on his face, but he just smiled. It was that smile that caused her heart to do flips, which it was doing right now.
The paper now removed, she carefully opened the box. She removed from the box her most cherished possession. Her eyes lit up as she held her compact in her hands. The same compact Luis had given her once before, when they returned from New Mexico.
“Luis!” She said ecstatically, wherever did you find it? I thought I'd lost it for good. I searched everywhere for it and couldn't find it.”
“I found it” Luis said softly, “in Jean-Luc's country house. You must have dropped it when Roger and Pierre dragged you outside.”
“Thank you so much Luis!” she said sweetly. “This means more to me than you know.”
“Read the inscription” Luis said grinning.
“You had it inscribed?” Sheridan asked in surprise. She saw the look on his face and suddenly felt her heart begin to pound. She slowly brought the compact closer so she could read the inscription by the light of the candles.

“After New Mexico we learned to care,
After Paris we learned to trust.
Now we can learn to love.”
With all my love, Luis

Tears of joy were streaming down Sheridan's face. She could barely read the inscription, her voice so filled with emotion. Luis walked up to her. He bent his knees and lowered himself until he was at eye level with Sheridan.
“Sheridan, I want you to know I mean every word” Luis began as he stared deeply into her breathtakingly beautiful blue eyes. “I want to learn to love you, the way you deserve to be loved.”
“Oh, Luis” was all she could manage through her tears. Luis took her hands and held them in his own.
“Sheridan, my life changed forever the day you crashed into my police car. I didn't know then how much. We've had our differences to be sure, but we've also shared some great times. The night I kissed you on the wharf, something happened to me. I didn't know what, all I knew is I'd never felt like that before in my life. Then when we talked later that night, I believed all was right with the world. The next day, I felt alive and truly happy for the first time in years. I started making plans for the future. I even went out and bought you a card, so I could tell you how I felt. A few minutes later my world came crashing down, when you came in and slapped me."
“I had no clue what had just happened, except it felt like my heart and soul had been ripped out of me. I immediately put up a brick wall to protect myself. I convinced my head that I was a fool for having thought you were different from the rest of your family. I vowed I'd never let anyone hurt me that way again. I vowed to forget about you and never look back."
“My head kept telling me that I didn't care. Would never care again, but my heart couldn't let go. That's why I had to follow you to Paris. My heart convinced me you were in danger and my head kept telling me it was my cop instinct. I refused to let my heart show through."
“When we were home and finally talked and cleared things up, I started to let down the brick wall I'd built up, only to find I was in love with you Sheridan. I think I have been for awhile, but was too hurt to admit it to myself.”
“Oh, Luis” Sheridan sobbed as the tears still streamed down her face. She wrapped her arms tightly around his neck and pulled him as close to her as she could and still breathe. This was not how she'd planned the night to go. She'd never expected this and needed to compose herself.
After a few moments Sheridan pulled back, having composed herself enough to speak. “Luis, I have a confession to make” she said nervously. “I overheard you talking to Pilar at the hospital the other day. I had no idea you were going to tell her what you did, otherwise I never would have stayed there. By then it was too late to move.”
Luis smiled gently. “Well I see I didn't scare you off with what you heard me tell Mama.”
“Scare me off?” She repeated in surprise. “How could I be scared off by hearing that the man I'm in love with, is in love with me as well?” She asked.
Luis' gentle smile became a huge grin.
“All I wanted to do was yell I love you too Luis, but I couldn't. So I'll tell you now” she whispered. “I am in love with you Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald.”
“As I am with you Sheridan Crane” Luis said.
**************************************
Ethan had just finished dinner at the Crane Mansion and was moping around the living room. Julian passed through on his way to his study and noticed Ethan practically sulking.
“Ethan, my boy” he said as sincerely as Julian could, “What's wrong?”
“Oh it's nothing Father” Ethan frowned. “Just bored I guess. I miss Gwen terribly as well.”
“Why don't you go see Sheridan?” Julian asked, knowing how close the two were.
“In case you hadn't noticed Father” Ethan said, “Sheridan's cottage is still a crime scene. She's not staying there. Besides, she's out on a date tonight with Luis.”
“She's WHAT?” Julian bellowed.
Ethan was startled to say the least. “Why are you so surprised, Father?” Ethan asked curiously. “After all, Luis saved her life in Paris numerous times. I convinced her to tell him what she saw that night on the Wharf and finally settle things with him one way or another. After talking to him, she realized it couldn't possibly have been Luis on the wharf that night and they made up. I'm very happy for her Father.”
Julian was pale. His mouth hung wide, not knowing what to say.
“Father, Is something wrong?” Ethan questioned, noticing the look on Julian's face.
Julian plastered one of his cockeyed fake smiles on his face. “No Ethan. Nothing is wrong.” He walked over to the bar and poured himself a large glass of brandy. “I'm going into my study Ethan and wish not to be disturbed. Why don't you go have some fun tonight? Hmm? Sew your wild oats! Show this town what Crane men are made of!”
“I may go have some fun Father” Ethan said sarcastically, “but I'm not sewing any wild oats. I love Gwen and I would never deliberately cheat on her like you are suggesting. When I get married, it will be a total commitment to one woman for life.”
“Ah, but Ethan, as you astutely pointed out, you are not married yet!” Julian gave his son a knowing look and a sinister laugh. “Have fun my boy” he said as he walked on through to his study. Ethan shot his father a disapproving look as he watched him leave the room.
***********************************
The two remained motionless as they stared longingly at each other in the candlelit room. Luis leaned in and kissed Sheridan with a desire and passion he'd never possessed.
Sheridan had never experienced such a sensation in her life. There was something different about this kiss, which was causing her to lose her sense of reality. She knew she needed to stop it soon or she'd never be able to break free. Gently she broke the kiss. She was completely breathless after such a brief kiss. “Wow, Luis!” she said, “What was that?”
“I'm not sure” he answered, fire still in his eyes. “But I know I want to do that again.” His voice was quiet and low and caused Sheridan's entire body to tingle.
“Well, what do you say we eat dinner first and then we can try that again?” She suggested playfully.
“Do we have to eat?” He asked, still mesmerized by their last kiss.
“Luis, just so you know, I skipped lunch today in order to eat this dinner with you tonight. So right now I am ravenous.” She gave Luis a pleading look. She also knew if he held out much longer, she would definitely give up dinner for another kiss like that one.
“I'm pretty hungry too” He agreed with a smile. Sheridan smiled back and they began to eat.
They ate in silence for a few minutes, each stealing a glance from the other whenever they could. “So did you buy out all the stores in Harmony today?” Luis asked with a smirk.
Sheridan grinned. “No, only about half” she replied. “Tina did get a good tour of all the designer shops in town though" she added lightheartedly.
“I bet she was impressed with that” Luis kidded.
“It's hard to impress someone from Boston with much from Harmony” Sheridan answered.
“Well she certainly was impressed with you” Luis smiled proudly.
“Well, I like her too Luis” Sheridan said. “I only wish she could stay here in Harmony. It's too bad she's only assigned here temporarily. It's been along time since I've had another woman around I can talk to.”
“What about Gwen? Or Ivy? Or my mother?” Luis questioned.
Sheridan smiled. “I love Gwen, Luis” she said, “ so don't take this the wrong way, but she's too serious. She's not one I can share my hopes and dreams with. She always has to bring me back to reality. As for Ivy, she and I have been getting along well since I came home from Paris last summer, but we've never really been close.” Sheridan paused for a moment before continuing. “As for Pilar, I love her as if she were my own mother. She's been there for me since I was a little girl and helped me through some very difficult times in my life. BUT... she is also your mother and there are just certain things I'd rather not discuss with her.”
A large smile crept across Luis' face. He looked at Sheridan who was gazing at him in a very affectionate manner. “So you see Luis, I really have enjoyed talking to Tina these past few days. She's given me a whole new way of looking at certain things."
“Well, we'll just have to make Tina feel so welcome in Harmony, she'll never want to leave” Luis suggested.
“You know Luis” Sheridan said with excitement. “That's a great idea. Do you think there's a chance she could get a job with the department?”
“Sam's always looking for good officers” Luis agreed, “but Sheridan, she has a life back in Boston. What makes you think she'd want to move to Harmony?”
“Well it doesn't hurt to ask does it?” Sheridan asked as she continued to eat her lobster.
“No, I guess it doesn't” Luis consented.
They continued to eat for a few more minutes when Luis finally asked her a question that he'd wanted to know the answer to all evening.
“Sheridan,” Luis said with a very serious face, “Why didn't you call me and tell me Hank was bothering you earlier today?”
“Luis, it was nothing really” Sheridan said not wanting to cause any more trouble between the two best friends. Sheridan hated that she had been the cause of such a huge fight between them.
“That's not the way I hear it Sheridan” Luis said with concern. “I know you don't want to cause any more hard feelings between Hank and myself. I can appreciate that, but you are not responsible for what happened. Hank is. He is the one that assumed things he shouldn't have. He and I have fought over girls in the past, but it was always good-natured. There was nothing good natured about the way he acted last night, or about the things he said to you this afternoon.”
“Well, I must admit Luis” Sheridan said reluctantly; “He did scare me a bit. I'd never seen him act that way. There was also a look in his eyes that was so cold it sent chills through me.”
“Well if he bothers you again, promise me you'll tell me?” Luis implored.
“I promise” Sheridan agreed. “I'm very lucky to have you looking out for me, Luis. You even made sure our little lobster friends didn't have to suffer” she grinned.
I was almost tempted to let them suffer Sheridan” Luis said mischievously. “I asked them what the secret was to getting the meat out of these little parts here and they wouldn't tell me! Imagine that!” Luis held up a small leg as a demonstration. “But, since I promised to be kind, I rubbed their bellies putting them to sleep before I cooked them.”
Sheridan giggled listening to Luis. “That was so sweet of you to lull them to sleep first" she said grinning. “Just for that, I'll just have to show you what the lobsters wouldn't.” Sheridan stood up and walked over to Luis with a very playful look in her eyes. Luis watched her, waiting with anticipation her next move. Sheridan slid down into his lap and smiled provocatively. “Let me show you how to get meat from these guys. Her eyes locked with Luis' for a moment. Her heart was pounding, but she finally broke the gaze and turned towards Luis' plate. “Now watch carefully" she instructed softly.
“Oh, I'm watching, Sheridan” he said in a husky voice. He felt his breathing quicken as he watched her expertly remove the meat from the tiny leg. She held it up to him and dangled the fork in front of him.
“See?” she said with a satisfied grin. She slowly moved the fork towards his mouth, feeding him the morsel of food. Luis grinned as he savored his mouthful of lobster. Their eyes never left each other.
“Now” she announced handing him the fork, “It's your turn.” Sheridan smiled teasingly.
Luis took the fork from Sheridan and grinned infectiously. He picked up another tiny leg and attempted the same maneuver he'd seen Sheridan make earlier failing miserably. Sheridan just smiled and once again showed him, this time leaving the meat inside. Again, Luis used his fork and diligently worked at removing the remains of the leg. This time he managed to successfully scoop out the meat. He held the fork up victoriously, with the meat skewered on its prongs. He then returned the deed and teasingly swerved his fork to and fro until he gently fed her his prized catch. Sheridan sat in Luis' lap, lost in his gaze. She now had both arms around his neck and was smiling lovingly at him. “You are a fast learner” she finally said.
“Only as good as my teacher” he replied grinning at her. Sheridan leaned forward and rested her forehead against his. “I could learn to like this” Luis said with a raised brow.
“Oh you could, Luis?” Sheridan asked with feigned suspicion.
"Sure" he said, "What's not to like? A bottle of good wine, a lobster dinner complete with lessons in how to eat every last bit, a blazing fire, soft music, and best of all, having you here with me. Sheridan gave Luis a bashful smile and ran her hand along the contours of his face. A new song began playing and Luis recognized it instantly. The words reminded him so much of Sheridan.
She knew she caught my eye
And that was all it took
Ain't it strange how forever changed
With just one look
The magic filled the night
She touched my soul like no one else
Yes, the way that woman made me feel
Left me talking to myself
You better run for cover
You better hide your heart
'Cause once you start to love her
You know you'll never stop
She shines like a diamond
When she walks into a room
She could charm the stars
Hypnotize the moon
Luis looked up and caught her eye and smiled. "You know this song, Sheridan?" he began and she leaned back slightly to look at him. "It's exactly how I feel about you." Sheridan felt the grin return from that sweet sentiment. She brushed her nose to his lightly and then rested her forehead against his. She exhaled a contended sigh and listened to the rest of the words.
Once I held her close
I knew just where I stood
No you never get a second chance
To ever feel so good
Then and there I knew
These words were etched in stone
If you can't feel the power of
The greatest love you've known, oh, oh
You better run for cover
You better hide your heart
Cause once you start to love her
You know you'll never stop
She shines like a diamond
When she walks into a room
She could charm the stars
Hypnotize the moon
"Is this how you really feel about me?" Sheridan asked with a soft, curious tone.
"Yes Sheridan, exactly how I feel about you,” Luis said with a sexy smile.
Sheridan felt like she was living in a dream. She leaned in and kissed Luis softly on the lips. She felt warmth flood her entire body. She pulled her head back and gave Luis a very enticing smile. "So you think I hypnotize the moon, do you?" she asked.
"Why not?" he grinned. "You've hypnotized me?"
“Now I know why I fell for you the way I did. You are just the sweetest man I've ever met” Sheridan told him as she kissed his cheek lightly.
“Sweet am I?” Luis asked in amusement.
“Yes” Sheridan said softly giving him a gentle kiss on the forehead. “Sweet.” She then kissed the tip of his nose. “And gentle.” Luis' expression was now one of pure pleasure. She now let her lips brush his cheek, “And kind.” Sheridan stopped for a moment and stared at his mouth. She let her fingers gently outline his lips and she heard him inhale sharply.
Sheridan leaned in, closing the distance between them. She stopped briefly and said in a hoarse whisper, “And so very sexy.” Luis placed his hand behind Sheridan's head pulling her towards him until their lips converged. When their lips met, both felt a surge of passion flow through their bodies. The kiss escalated quickly into something neither of them could control. Sheridan broke the kiss for a moment to catch her breath. “Oh, Luis” she moaned gasping for air.
“My God, Sheridan” he responded as he began eagerly layering kisses on her neck and shoulders. Sheridan threw her head back in pleasure as she closed her eyes.
Luis kissed his way back up to Sheridan's face. He sought out her mouth and kissed her fiercely. Sheridan returned the kiss with every bit as much zeal. Her hands caressed his face, making their way through his now rumpled hair. Luis in turn was caressing the exposed areas of her back and shoulders.
Luis came up for air and again began trailing kisses on Sheridan's neck. “Sheridan?” Luis called in a deep breathless voice.
“Yes, Luis?” she whispered gruffly.
He began to nibble at her earlobe, which sent waves of pleasure through her body. “Do you mind if we move from here?” he asked.
“What?” she said, confused by his question.
“This chair, it's killing me” he confessed.
“Of course we can move” she said, regaining her breath. Sheridan started to get up but Luis stopped her.
“You don't need to move. I'll take care of it” he said. In one swift movement, Luis placed one arm under her knees and the other around her shoulders and stood up with her in his arms. “I like this too,” he grinned. Sheridan smiled back and wrapped her arms around his neck. He walked over to the couch and sat down, still carrying her in his arms. He leaned back slightly pulling her with him, so she was almost lying on top of him. “Much better” he said with a sexy smile.
Sheridan grinned back at him. “You'll get no argument from me” she said seductively. Her eyes were filled with desire and she gently pushed Luis further down on the couch, now completely on top of him.
“Sheridan!” Luis said with feigned shock. “What are you doing?”
“What do you think I'm doing Luis?” she asked in a whisper. She lowered her head and kissed him again. Luis deepened the kiss, exploring her mouth. His hands worked their way up and down her body resting on her hips. Sheridan now in a new position took advantage of it. She broke their kiss and began kissing Luis' neck. She ran her hands over his shirt, resting them at the top button. As her kisses made their way down his neck, she began unbuttoning his shirt, massaging the newly exposed areas of his chest.
Sheridan looked up for a moment when she heard Luis moan her name. She watched him with his eyes closed enjoying her touch, which only aroused her further. One by one, Sheridan opened the buttons of Luis' shirt. She massaged his chest followed by gentle kisses.
Luis' breathing was becoming heavier. “Sheridan,” he gasped, “Do you have any idea what you're doing to me?” He pulled his head up slightly and looked at her. She saw a burning passion in his eyes that was almost frightening.
“Do you want me to stop?” she whispered, trying to hide her disappointment.
“Did I say anything about stopping?” he asked still short of breath. “I just wanted to know if you had any idea what sort of effect you are having on me.”
“A good one I hope” she grinned.
“Oh, believe me, it's a good one” he laughed. “We just haven't really discussed this yet.”
“What would you like to discuss?” she asked.
Luis pulled himself to an upright position and wrapped his arms around Sheridan. Sheridan buried her head on his chest. She inhaled deeply, the scent of his cologne, the feel of his body was driving her mad.
“I think we need to talk about where this is going tonight” Luis said. “Sheridan, we did agree to tale things slowly. This is anything but slow.” He pulled her head up to look in her eyes.
“I know Luis” she said trying to hide her disappointment.
Luis could see in her eyes that she didn't want to stop. Neither did he. “Tell me again, why we agreed to take it slowly?” he asked as he caressed her face.
Sheridan felt her body tingle. She closed her eyes briefly as she enjoyed his touch. “I think it was because we've hurt each other so much in the past.”
“That's right” he said as he again began to kiss her neck. “I have to tell you Sheridan, unless you stand firm, I'll never be able to take this slowly.” He started nibbling at her earlobe again. “All I want to do right now Sheridan, is make love to the woman I love.”
Sheridan involuntarily shivered. The combination of kisses and the intent look in Luis' eyes caused Sheridan to lose her battle. She pulled back from Luis and stared at him. “Then make love to me Luis” she whispered. She grabbed his arms and pulled him toward her as she fell back on the couch. Luis gave her a final glance, wanting to be completely sure about this and found Sheridan giving him an inviting smile. He leaned down and kissed her.
Once again, their kiss took off like a rocket, sending them into another place in time. Sheridan was just about to fall deeper under Luis' spell when she suddenly shot up. Luis was left breathless and confused.
“Luis” I'm sorry she said kissing him sweetly on the lips. “It's just that this isn't what I want for our first time. It needs to be perfect.”
“So far tonight's been perfect for me” he smiled.
“I know” she agreed. “Everything has been perfect, so far. But I want to get the dishes cleaned up first. And I also have dessert for us. I think you'll like it too” she teased.
“I will, huh?”
“You will” she promised. “I was also hoping for a dance with you later.”
“That does sound like fun” he grinned.
“Good” she said softly. She stood up and started gathering the dishes from the table. Luis followed her and helped clear the table.

Chapter 13
Hank Bennett lay on his bed staring up at the ceiling. His arms were neatly folded behind his head as he thought about what he was about to do tonight. He didn't know the specifics, he would find those out later. What he did know, however, was he was going back to the life he tried to put behind him forever. It was a decision that he came to out of anger, but one he'd been considering for awhile now. Hank enjoyed living life to the fullest. He didn't want to be tied down to a nine to five job for the next forty years. The job he would do tonight would pay Luis' mortgage for a year. He didn't have to do it forever. He could just quit like he did the last time. Hank smiled, satisfied now, he'd just do a few jobs for them and that would be it. He'd save the money this time and he'd have a great start to his future.
Hank sat up and threw his legs over the edge of the bed. A great start indeed. Once this job was finished, Luis would be out of the way and Sheridan would be his for the taking. He smiled to himself at the very thought. He checked his watch. “Well Jack" he said standing up, “Welcome back.” He walked into the bathroom to get cleaned up. This night he thought would change the lives of many people in Harmony forever.
****************************
The table had been cleared, the dishes all put away and Luis had taken out the trash. Sheridan stood in the kitchen as she prepared to serve Luis dessert. She had a feeling he'd very much appreciate the dessert she'd picked out for them tonight. A dreamy look came over her face as she conjured up the image of Luis' reaction when he saw what she'd planned for him.
Luis walked up behind Sheridan and wrapped his arms around her waist as he gently laid kisses across her neck and shoulders. “Sheridan the scent of your perfume is driving me crazy” he whispered as he continued trailing kisses from ear to ear.
Sheridan felt tingly all over from his soft lips grazing her skin. She so loved the feel of his kisses on her body, but she knew if she let him continue, her plans for the rest of the evening would never materialize. Slowly she turned around and faced Luis. She gave him a gentle kiss on the lips.
“Luis” Sheridan said with a very playful smile. “I need you to do me a favor.”
“Anything for you Sheridan” he answered with his killer smile.
“I need you to go into the bedroom and stay there until I come and get you” she said softly.
“Oh really?” He gave her his most seductive smile. “I won't mind that favor one bit.”
“I hate to tell you this Luis, but it's not what you think. I just need to do something and you can't see what it is until I am finished. I promise you will like it though” she said with a devilish grin.
“I may like it, but I like my idea better” he said sticking out his bottom lip, pretending to pout.
“Don't you worry about it Luis. All in good time. Now scoot!” She laughed as she pointed towards the bedroom door.
Luis gave her one last lonely glance as he turned and walked towards the bedroom. Sheridan shook her head as she watched him leave. She stood there watching until she heard the door click shut. Once satisfied that Luis was gone, she walked over to the freezer and took out two cartons of ice cream. She then removed two containers from the cupboard and put them on the counter. One contained chocolate, the other colored sprinkles.
Sheridan scooped out two dishes of ice cream, one chocolate, the other vanilla. She smiled as she thought about putting the colored sprinkles on the chocolate ice cream, but decided against it. She wasn't looking for any reason to argue tonight. She was having a wonderful time with Luis and wanted it to stay that way. She had a feeling that tonight was going to be a very special night for them. One they would both cherish for the rest of their lives.
Sheridan already would remember this night, as it was the first time Luis told her he loved her. Though she'd planned to tell him how she felt, she never expected he'd be the one to say it first. They both had been hurt by each other a great deal over misunderstandings and stubborn pride. She knew first hand how difficult it must have been for Luis to take the leap of faith he did. She didn't know if she would have been able to do the same thing, until now. Right now, Sheridan felt like she could tell Luis anything. Anything that is, except one thing. There was still one thing from her past she was not ready to share with Luis.
Sheridan quickly doused the ice cream with the appropriate sprinkles and placed the dishes on the table. She then grabbed a dishcloth and walked to the bedroom to get Luis. She knocked lightly on the door. Luis opened the door and gave her the smile that made her heart flutter. “Are you ready for me?” he asked with a glint in his eye.
“There's one more thing I need to do” she said placing her hands on his shoulders. “Turn around please.”
Luis obeyed and Sheridan, who had wrapped the dishtowel around several times, used it as a blindfold.
“You're kidding, right?” Luis asked in amusement.
“Hardly” she responded as she led him out to the table. He laughed his way to the table and sat down waiting for his surprise.
Sheridan sat down gently on his lap. She picked up his dish and held it in her hand. With the other hand she removed the towel from his eyes. “This is for you and only you” she grinned as she handed him the dish.
Luis saw the contents of the dish and a huge smile broke out on his face. “So you finally agree with me? Chocolate sprinkles rule!”
“Not quite” she said turning around and picking up the other dish. “It's colored or nothing!” She had a very satisfied look on her face.
Almost simultaneously they broke out into a fit of laughter. Each had remembered exactly what the other had said on their first date, when they ended their evening with ice cream cones. Sheridan put her dish on the table and took Luis' dish in her hands, she then fed him a mouthful of ice cream.
“Mmm” he said as he savored the bite. Those chocolate sprinkles make all the difference.
“Right, Luis!” Sheridan said laughingly.
“Well they do!” he joked.
Sheridan continued feeding Luis bites of his ice cream. Occasionally, she would get some on the corners of his mouth and she would remove it for him with a kiss. When Luis was finished with his ice cream he insisted on returning the favor and feeding Sheridan hers. With each bite she he gave her, he `accidentally' managed to smear a little on her lips. By the time she was finished with her dessert they were in another passionate kiss.
After a few minutes Sheridan came up for air. She gave Luis a big grin. “You know what? I think you did this on purpose just so you could taste my colored sprinkles” she said impishly.
“I did not!” Luis teased.
“I think you did!” she laughed. “And I think you liked the colored ones better!”
“Well” Luis said in a husky voice staring deep into Sheridan's eyes, “I certainly enjoyed how I tasted them.” He raised his eyebrows causing her to grin shyly.
“Now Miss Crane, what else do you have in store for me?” Luis asked inquisitively.

Julian sat down behind his desk. He reached over to pick up the phone when it suddenly rang. He pushed the button to the speakerphone and answered, “Julian Crane.”
“Well, what do you know? You answered the first time I tried calling” Alistair said as a sarcastic greeting to his son.
Julian scowled, but tried to keep his anger out of his voice. He despised when his father belittled him, publicly or privately. “Father, I was just going to call you” Julian said. “We have a problem.”
“Yes Julian. I am fully aware of our problem. Sheridan is on a date with Luis as we speak” Alistair informed him.
“How do you always know these things, Father?“ Julian questioned.
“Never mind how I know. I have my ways, Julian” Alistair barked.
“So what would you like me to do about Sheridan's date Father?” Julian asked in almost childlike fashion.
“Nothing Julian” Alistair said. “I've taken care of everything. My plan is already in motion.”
“What's your plan, Father” Julian asked.
“Let's just say that after tonight Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald will no longer be a threat to this family. I have a plan that will end any chance of Sheridan ever having a permanent relationship with Luis” Alistair informed him.
“How is that, Father?” Julian asked.
“Luis will disappear the same way his Father did many years ago” Alistair stated.
Julian sat there and said nothing for the moment.

The nurse had just finished changing the dressing on Roger's shoulder and Antoine volunteered to check the shackles on both prisoners. He walked over to each man's bed and pulled down the covers and checked the bracelet, making sure it was secure. As he pulled the covers up for each time, they each carefully placed their sleeping pill in Antoine's hand. When he was finished with the check, he placed both his hands in his pockets and dropped the pills inside. He walked back to his seat and anxiously waited until 11:00. After what seemed like an eternity he looked at his watch and it was time. He stood up and yawned loudly while stretching.
“I think I need another cup of coffee. Would you like one?” Antoine asked Jake.
“That would be great. I'm going to need one if I plan on staying awake tonight” he said.
“Certainly” Antoine said with a smile. He walked out of the room and headed for the nurse's lounge.
The nurses' lounge was now empty, as it was change of shift and report was being given. Antoine poured 2 cups of coffee. He reached into his pocket and found the pills. Before pulling them out he surveyed the room again, making sure he was alone. He took the capsules and opened them up, pouring the contents into one cup. He then put two stirrers in that cup, making sure he didn't mix them up, or he would be asleep all night and probably forever when Roger found out what happened.
Antoine fixed the cups with cream and sugar and returned to the room. He walked in to find Pierre and Roger faking slumber and Jake doing his best to stay awake. He handed Jake the cup with two stirrers. He returned to his seat and sipped on his coffee. He watched Jake as he took gulps from his cup, trying to let the caffeine help keep him awake. Antoine smiled to himself. It would only be a matter of time he thought.

Hank checked his watch and decided it was time to go. He grabbed his jacket and put it on. He then walked over to his dresser and opened the top drawer. Underneath his clean underwear, he pulled out a .45 caliber revolver. He checked the chamber making sure it was loaded. He then reached into the drawer and pulled out a handful of bullets and stuffed then in his pocket. He placed the gun in the waist of his pants, making sure his jacket hid it from view.
Hank took one last look around the room, making sure he didn't forget anything. He picked up his keys and left the room.
He drove his car to the East Side of the Towne Green, just as he was instructed. He was to wait there until a man approached him and gave him the proper key phrase, Harmony is not what it seems.
************************************
“You know what I'd really love to do right now Luis? Sheridan said with her eyes sparkling.
“What might that be?” he asked totally mesmerized by her gaze.
Sheridan put her arms around Luis' neck. “I would love to just sit on the floor in front of a roaring fire and whisper sweet nothings in your ear.”
“That's a tough one Sheridan” Luis kidded, “but I think it can be arranged.” Luis gave her a gentle kiss on the forehead. “I'll tell you what. I'll go put another log on the fire and you can pick the music this time. Deal?”
“Deal” she said. She kissed him fully on the lips before removing herself from his lap. “I was so comfortable there” she complained.
“Not to worry, Sheridan” Luis said with a sexy grin. “I'll make very sure we find other comfortable positions.”
Sheridan felt the heat in her cheeks. She couldn't prevent a smile from forming. “I am so looking forward to that Luis” she said in a low voice, looking over her shoulder as she walked over to the stereo.
Luis laughed quietly. He proceeded to place a new log on the fire. He stared at the fire for a moment as he used the poker to reposition the logs. He vaguely heard the stereo come into play, as he was lost in thought. His thoughts were of how much his life had changed in the last few days. He never would have believed that the pieces of his shattered dreams would be falling back into place. Right now the best piece was being fitting perfectly. Sheridan. He sighed happily thinking of her.
Sheridan quietly walked towards the fireplace and threw several pillows on the floor. She then seated herself in front of the pillows and leaned back as she watched the flames as they flickered in the otherwise dark room. Luis turned and saw her sitting there watching the fire. He gasped as he looked at her. Sitting there by the glow of the fire, she was the most breathtakingly beautiful woman he'd ever seen.
Sheridan heard him gasp. “What?” she asked bashfully as she detected his stare.
Luis sat down next to her. He placed his hand gently on her face and caressed her cheek. She smiled at his touch and felt warmth overtake her body and it wasn't from the fire. Luis was looking at her in a way, no one had ever looked at her before. She could see love in his eyes and it was the most wonderful feeling she'd ever experienced. She gazed back at the fire and heard the music playing in the background. It was a song she fell in love with years ago.
“Do you hear that song Luis?” Sheridan asked.
“I hear it” he smiled. “I remember dancing to it at a wedding once. The only problem was I danced it with my sister. Theresa was only twelve at the time. Somehow it's not quite the real thing.”
Sheridan grinned as she pictured Luis and a twelve year old Theresa dancing to this song. “I don't know whose story is more pathetic yours or mine. “I was at a dance in boarding school the first time I heard this song. My friend Josette and I were the only two wallflowers when this song was playing.”
Luis chuckled. “Well I say we both make new memories for it. Would you care to dance, Sheridan?” Luis extended his hand, Sheridan placed her hand in his and they stood up. Luis pulled her close to him and they started swaying to the music.
They held each other tightly. They gently moved to the music, lost in each other's eyes, lost in the words of the song.
You ask me if I love you, and I choke on my reply.
I'd rather hurt you honestly than mislead you with a lie.
And who am I to judge you on what you say or do.
I'm only just beginning to see the real you.
“I'm seeing the real you, Sheridan and so far I love what I see,” Luis whispered. Sheridan blushed. She loved this man. Every minute she spent with him she was falling deeper in love. She tenderly lifted one hand to his face, tracing its outline. She briefly closed her eyes as if committing his face to her deepest memory.
And sometimes when we touch the honesty's too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you till I die till we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you till the fear in me subside.
Romance and all its strategy, leaves me battling with my pride.
But through the insecurity some tenderness survives.
I'm just another writer still trapped within my truth
A hesitant Prize fighter still trapped my youth.
And sometimes when we touch the honesty's too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you till I die till we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you till the fear in me subside.
Luis never broke eye contact with Sheridan. His smile was infectious. She too, was lost in Luis' brown eyes. The glow of the fire dancing in his eyes, captivating her. She wanted to pull him closer and place her head on his muscular shoulder, but was unable to break the connection. It was almost as if they were one. She felt as if she could see into his soul and he into hers.
At times I'd like to break you
And drive you to your knees.
At times I'd like to break through and hold you endlessly.
At times I understand you, and I know how hard you've tried.
I've watched while love commands you
And I've watched love pass you by.
At times I think we're drifters,
Still searching for a friend, a brother or a sister.
But then the passion flares again.
“Somehow, Sheridan” Luis said in a husky whisper, “I think I'll remember this moment in time for all of my life. “I've never felt more at peace with life than I do at this very moment.” Sheridan's slight smile turned into a bigger one, as she continued watching the man of her dreams staring back in the fashion he was staring. Her heart was fluttering and her body tingling. She never wanted this night to end.
And sometimes when we touch the honesty's too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you till I die till we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you till the fear in me subside.
The song ended, but their dance continued. Neither one was immediately aware the song had ended. Sheridan slowly stopped. “That was some dance” she said completely flushed.
“It certainly was Sheridan” Luis said in a low voice. He too was now standing there directly in front of Sheridan. He placed both his hands on her face and held it. She inhaled sharply as she felt his strong hands begin caressing her face. Her body, which was already tingling, was now burning with desire. She found herself becoming breathless at the same time.
“Luis” she whispered nervously, a lump developing in her throat, “Maybe we should move away from the fire. It's getting pretty warm in here.”
“It is very warm in here Sheridan” he agreed, “but I don't think moving away from this fire will help me out any.”
She looked in his eyes and saw the same burning desire she was feeling. She knew he was right. Moving away from the fireplace would not cool thing down. She knew she couldn't fight it anymore. She didn't want to fight it. She wanted him as much as he wanted her. She wrapped her arms tightly around his neck and pulled him closer, until her mouth found his. She kissed him with a passion that was unleashed from the depths of her soul. Their mouths parted, their kiss escalating to a new height.
Luis was quickly losing control. His breathing becoming heavy and irregular. “Sheridan” he panted through a kiss. “I want you so much. I want to make love to you now.”
Sheridan kissed him fiercely. “Make love to me. I want you to make love to me. Right now” she whispered feverishly. She kissed him again. She broke the kiss and slid her hands down his arms until their hands met. She started walking backwards pulling him with her. Her eyes inviting him to join her in another place. They walked this way for a few feet, before Luis pulled her towards him and kissed her again. He then slid his arm down her back and picked her up in his arms. He continued kissing her passionately as he walked into the bedroom.

A look of genuine fear and horror found it's way to Julian's face. “Father, you can't be serious?” Julian asked.
“You know I don't fool around Julian. Game playing is for fools. If I say something I mean it. And I mean to say that Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald will disappear just like his father. He will never be a threat to the Crane Family and its secrets again” Alistair said coldly.
“How are you planning on doing that Father?” Julian asked, not sure he really wanted to know the answer to the question.
“All you need to know right now Julian, is that Sheridan and Luis are at the Crane Cabin at this moment. They are probably in bed right now” He said.
“Sheridan's in bed with Luis? Making love? Father, We MUST stop this from happening” Julian insisted.
“Oh let your sister have her one night fling with her Latino lover boy. Remember what I said, by this time tomorrow, no one in Harmony will ever see Luis again, including Sheridan.” Alistair remarked matter-of-factly.
“Sheridan will be devastated Father” Julian said with rare concern. “Especially if she sleeps with him tonight. Oh perish the thought!” Julian cringed and his body shuddered at the thought.
“It's Sheridan's own fault. She was warned to stay away from Luis. We did everything in our power to keep them apart, including hiring an impostor to make her think Luis was using her. The only thing we didn't do was put a permanent end to this romance, which is what I am planning on doing tonight. Sheridan's had numerous chances to prove her worthiness as a member of this Family. As you know, members of this family who do not tow the line will be severely punished. This will be Sheridan's punishment. She will never again lay eyes on her lover boy Luis.” Alistair's voice was firm and controlling.
“Just sit tight Julian. I will call you back later” The phone clicked.
Julian let out a weary sigh. He rested his head on his arms, which were crossed in front of him on his desk. “Oh sister. My dear sister Sheridan” Julian moaned. “Why didn't you listen?”
Chapter 14
Hank sat in his car waiting for his contact to show up. He tapped nervously on his steering wheel. Every minute or so, he would check his rear view mirror, then glance side to side, making sure he wasn't be watched. He checked his watch. It was 11:50. `He'll be here any minute' he thought.
Ten minutes passed and Hank was fidgeting even more. He nervously looked behind him in his routine check and jumped when a figure appeared at the driver's window. “Harmony isn't what it seems” the stranger said.
Hank breathing a tentative sigh of relief said, “No, there is trouble brewing here.”
The stranger walked around to the other side of the car and climbed inside. As he shut the door he announced, “Just drive. For the time being, head toward the next town. I don't want anyone seeing us here.”
Hank looked at the man, but didn't question. He'd never seen him before, but yet, there was something familiar about him. He was fairly non descript, dark hair and eyes, regular build, but still, there was something eerie about this man. “Have we met before?” Hank finally asked. He'd noticed the stranger was becoming uneasy with Hank's curiosity. “You look so familiar, I have the feeling we've met.”
The stranger flashed Hank a smile. “I get that a lot around here. I guess I have one of those faces, huh?” he laughed.
“I guess” Hank agreed with an uncertain smile. So where are we going?” he asked.
“Somewhere away from Harmony to talk. I need to tell you what we are going to do tonight. This plan must be perfectly executed. Mr. Crane won't be as forgiving this time if his plan doesn't work.”
“Julian Crane?" Hank said in surprise. "No, Julian never was the forgiving type” Hank agreed.
“Not Julian” the man said. “The other Crane. The old man.”
Hank's face lost its color. “You mean we are working for Alistair Crane?”
“The one and only” the man grinned.
“And you're happy about this?” Hank asked.
“Why not? It pays the bills and keeps me in the lifestyle I was born to live” he said.
Hank nodded his head slowly in agreement. “Yeah, I guess you're right” Hank said as he thought about all the money he would make from tonight's little deed. “I guess old man Alistair isn't as bad as everyone makes him out to be, right?”
“I don't know much about Alistair Crane, but when I met with him earlier, he didn't seem to be the type of man I want to cross. He blames his son Julian for things getting out of hand” the stranger said.
Hank tried to ignore the last comment. “Well, if everything goes well tonight, Alistair will get what he wants, I'll get what I want and we will both be able to eat at the Sea Scape restaurant every night if we want.” Hank smiled satisfied with himself.
The stranger shot hand an evil smile as they continued down the road to the outskirts of Harmony
**************************
Jake was fast asleep in the chair across from Roger's bed. Antoine walked over to him and gently shook him. Jake was out like a light. “He's asleep!” Antoine announced. He gently removed the keys from Jake's waist and walked over to Roger and Pierre and released them from their shackles. Both men sat there rubbing their ankles for a moment, while Antoine checked the door, making sure there was no one in sight. He then walked over to the window and raised it up. “We are very lucky they put us in a room on the first floor facing the rear of the hospital” Antoine announced with a cynical smile.
“Yes” Roger agreed. “These Harmony policemen are not too bright. Just that one friend of Sheridan Crane's. He has a brain.” Roger shook his head in contemplative silence.
“Pierre, Roger!” Let's go now!” Antoine begged in a whisper as he stood holding the window open.
Pierre and Roger had no clothes, so they were forced to leave in their hospital garb, wearing nothing but socks on their feet. It didn't matter to them, however. They'd rather wear backless gowns then face beheading back in Paris. The three men silently crept out the window and ran across the lawn to the Harmony Town Green, on their way to freedom.
The three men ran silently through the green, looking for any signs of a car. Roger and Pierre stayed fairly hidden in the woods, as it would be very obvious to anyone that saw them in their attire, they shouldn't be there. Antoine finally spotted a car. He glanced around making sure the coast was clear and pulled a small tool kit out of his pocket. He expertly opened the car door. Within a minute he had the engine running and returned to get his friends. Roger and Pierre climbed in the back seat and ducked down. Antoine casually left the green and took the first road he came to that led out of Harmony.
Once they left the town center, Roger and Pierre sat up in their seats. “Antoine” Roger said. “We must stop somewhere and get some clothes. We can not chance being caught in these clothes. It will look too suspicious.”
“I agree, Roger. We must change clothing” Pierre announced. *************************************************
Luis put Sheridan back on her feet once inside the bedroom. Their kisses were hot. With her feet planted on the ground, Sheridan removed her arms from around Luis' neck. She momentarily left her exploration of his mouth, as she moved her attention down towards his chest. She undid several buttons, then ran her hands over his muscular chest. She looked up only to see him staring back with a burning passion in his eyes that ripped through her body. He leaned in and they once again kissed. Luis explored Sheridan's mouth again and his hands began a serious quest to learn every curve of her body. Sheridan undid the rest of his shirt pulling it away from his waist.
“Luis” Sheridan whispered breathlessly, “let me slip into something more comfortable.” She smiled seductively as she ran her hands over his now bare chest.
“Let me help you with that Sheridan” Luis requested in a deep voice. Before she had a chance to say another word, he'd unzipped her dress, letting it fall to the floor. She now stood in front of him wearing only a black lace bra and panties. Luis then arched his back slightly as he removed his open shirt and tossed it to the side.
Sheridan gasped at his slick move and then as she stared at his perfectly formed torso. She felt her breathing quicken as the excitement within her grew. She saw how turned on Luis was, as he stared at her in her underwear. This was causing her to grow hotter than she already was. She reached behind her and unhooked her bra. She smiled sexily at Luis as she slowly removed it from one shoulder, then the other, finally letting it slip to the floor.
Luis' expression was a combination of surprise and pure pleasure. He slowly moved forward, his heart racing. Sheridan could feel her own heart beating rapidly. She was finding it difficult to breathe as Luis approached her with his eyes fixated on her well-developed breasts. He wrapped his arms around her, pressing her bare skin against his own. They both reeled in this new sensation. They began kissing feverishly. Luis and Sheridan were walking as they kissed, inching closer to the king-size bed. Sheridan's legs hit the bed and they both stopped. Luis came up for air and looked down at Sheridan. She returned his gaze, longing, love and passion in her eyes. Luis smiled his famous smile, as he gently lay her back on the bed. Luis placed one knee on the bed as he followed her onto the bed. He gently lowered his body on hers and began trailing kisses down her neck.
Sheridan's eyes were now closed. She knew she had to be dreaming. This couldn't possibly be happening, she thought. But it was. Luis' hands now began massaging her chest and she moaned, “Oh Luis! Do you have any idea what you are doing to me?”
“I know what I'm trying to do” he smiled. “I also know what you are doing to me right now.” Luis' massaging action quickened and his kisses continued down her neck and shoulders.
“I love you, Luis” Sheridan managed to say completely breathless.
“I love you too Sheridan” Luis whispered back.
Those were the last comprehensible words spoken by either Luis or Sheridan for awhile. The continued their exploration of each other's body. They slowly learned how to please each other as well as reveling in the sensations they were experiencing. Neither had ever in their wildest dreams expected to FEEL so much. They made love in a way neither one had ever made love before. They truly were soul mates just finding each other for the first time.

Julian was still sitting at his desk, pounding down the glasses of brandy as he tried to forget his conversation with his Father. His mind was a blur, as he conjured up an image of a grieving Sheridan. Julian loved being a Crane, basking in all the money and power that came with the name. He especially loved the idea that he someday would run Crane Industries as his father did today. He did not, however agree with all the decisions his father made.
Julian never had any intention of allowing any of the many skeletons in the Family closet to escape. He just did not enjoying adding to them. He found it difficult to understand how his father could so enjoy the horrific pain he inflicted on others. This time, part of that pain would be on his own daughter. Julian knew Luis posed a grave threat to their family and understood the need to end any association between Sheridan and Luis. He found the impostor very clever. He thought for sure, this would have ended things permanently, between Sheridan and Luis. He had under-estimated the feelings Sheridan actually had for him. This time, he feared, would be permanent.
Julian was shaken from his reverie as the phone rang. He pushed the button. “Julian Crane”.
“Julian” Alistair bellowed.
Julian jumped to attention. “Yes Father?” He tried to regain his composure. “I meant to ask you earlier, What did you do with that mask of Luis' face?”
“It's right here, Father” Julian assured him as he opened up the top drawer on the right hand side of his desk. Julian reached in to pull out the mask. He pulled the drawer open as much as he could and began to frantically search the drawer and the mask was not there. His face was now pale on its way to becoming green.
“Is something wrong, Julian?” Alistair asked pleasantly.
“Nothing's wrong Father,” Julian responded with a very nervous laugh. “I must have put it in a different drawer.” He continued ripping through each drawer on his desk. He was throwing papers everywhere in his desperate search for the mask.
“Don't bother, Julian” Alistair said in disgust. “I know exactly where the mask is. Julian you are a fool! How could you be so careless to leave the mask in a drawer with a broken lock on it?”
“I was going to have the lock repaired, Father” Julian said in a pacifying tone. “Besides, everyone in this house knows this desk is my personal sanctuary and not to touch it. No one would dare enter this room unless I was here.” Julian regained his pompousness.
“If you believe that Julian you are a bigger fool than I thought. Remember, nothing is as it seems in Harmony” Alistair said.
“Yes, I understand Father. So where is the mask?” he questioned.
“Somewhere that it will help us rather than help destroy us Julian” Alistair said firmly. That mask is going to help ensure the future of the Crane Empire.”

“By the way” Hank said, “I'm Jack. Jack Gallagher.” Hank extended his hand to the other man.
“Frank Smith” He shook Hank's hand.
`Frank Smith, now that's original' Hank thought smiling at Frank.
“Pull over there, Jack” Frank said pointing to a hidden driveway off the side of the road. “Turn off your lights and just pull in far enough so we won't be seen from the road.”
Hank did as he was told. Once he had stopped, Hank put the car in park and shut off the motor. He turned to Frank, anxiously waiting to hear their next move.
“OK, Why don't you tell me what you know first” Frank asked Hank.
Hank sighed in slight disappointment but agreed. “I've been out of this `freelance' business for awhile” he began. “These guys I know kept threatening me, they'd expose me for who I really am if I didn't go along with them. So far I've been pretty lucky, but they were insistent. And they were offering a lot of money.” Hank let out a quick laugh. “Anyway the last job I was supposed to do for them was to track down a certain woman who came from Paris to the States last summer. I didn't know why they wanted her and frankly I didn't care. As it turned out I tracked her down to Harmony. It turned out Sheridan was in fact Sheridan Crane, Alistair's daughter. Man is she gorgeous!” Hank let out a soft whistle.
“Once I saw her, I kind of fell for her and decided I'd much rather get to know her than grab her and return her to those guys in France. They'd probably kill her and if I played my cards right, I figured I could get Sheridan to fall in love with me. Then being married to a member of the richest family in Harmony, I'd have everything I'd ever wanted including a beautiful wife.” Hank smiled as he thought about his dream.
Frank shook his head in disbelief at the ego Jack had.
“Anyway, I got to know her pretty well and we dated a few times, nothing serious, you understand. But then my BEST friend had to stick his nose in where it didn't belong.” Hank's tone was now filled with bitterness and resentment. “He was always there to play hero for her. Now the two of them are in love.” Hank was very flippant in his last statement.
“So now these guys know where I am and where Sheridan is and want me to make sure she stays away from Luis. It must be because he's a cop. They claim they won't hurt her, they just want to talk to her and keep her away from Luis. How could I resist an offer like that? Keep the woman that would make my dreams come true away from Luis AND get paid for it?" Hank smiled.
Frank digested the information Hank had just given him. “Do you have any idea how this is going to happen?” Frank asked.
“Nope. I was told to meet you and you would fill me in on the details.” Hank said.
“I see” Frank replied. “Well Jack, if you'll step out of the car for a few minutes I'll show you exactly how we'll manage to take care of your BESTfriend and Sheridan Crane at the same time.”
“Why do I have to step out of the car?” Hank asked.
Everything will become clear in five minutes. Just step out of the car and in five minutes come back and you will understand everything” Frank said with an evil grin.
“All right man” Hank said in bewilderment. He slowly stepped out of the car. He was a little nervous, but decided he'd better get over it. He checked his watch every few seconds waiting for the five minutes to pass. Five minutes had never seemed so long as he slowly watched the seconds tick by.
After what seemed like an eternity, it was time to re-enter the car. He climbed back into the car and turned to Frank who was looking out the passenger window. “OK, now what is it that is going to make this all seem perfectly clear?” Hanks asked.
Frank turned to Hank and said, “I don't know, why don't you tell me?”
Hank stared at Frank in total shock. His eyes were wide and his jaw nearly on the floor. He couldn't utter a sound as he looked at the face of his best friend, Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald.
******************************
Luis and Sheridan, slumped in each other's arms, lay breathless. They had just finished making love for the very first time. For what seemed like eternity, they just stared at each other in awe, smiling and occasionally giving each other a gentle kiss. It was several minutes before either of them spoke.
“Sheridan” Luis said, “That was... that was just... just WOW! I don't know how to describe it!” He was laughing giddily, his eyes gleaming.
“Tell me about it!” she said playfully. “That was incredible. Where did you ever learn THAT?”
“Sheridan, I hate to tell you, but that was the first time for me like THAT!” He grinned impishly. “You brought it out in me! I've never had such a wild experience in my life. You are always full of surprises aren't you?”
“We'll I need to tell you Luis, I've never been like THIS with anyone. I guess it just must be the way WE are meant to be” she grinned.
“Oh. I hope so Sheridan” Luis smiled kissing her fully on the lips. “I think I'm going to enjoy doing this again and again and again...” He raised and lowered his eyebrows in a very suggestive manner.
Sheridan smiled, blushing slightly. “I hope so” Sheridan said. “We have a lot of wasted time to make up for, now don't we?”
“We certainly do” Luis grinned. He again kissed Sheridan's mouth. This time their lips parted and they both moaned in excitement. Luis turned over and again lay on top of Sheridan, as they once again began to discover the wealth of pleasure their bodies held for only each other.
![]() CHAPTER 15
Hank remained stunned for several minutes. He stared at Frank is utter amazement. “You look just like him” Hank finally said.
“I sound just like him too!” Frank replied, mimicking Luis' voice. Again Hank was totally speechless. His jaw dropped. “I don't believe it!” Hank lifted his hand to the mask that was situated on Frank's face. He needed to touch the mask to assure himself it indeed was NOT Luis sitting in the car next to him.
“Hey, be careful will you?” Frank said with annoyance.
“Oh, sorry” Hank said as he came back to reality at the sound of Frank's voice. “It's just that you look and sound so much like Luis. “Where did you get this mask?”
Frank smiled. “Let's just say, when I put this mask on, I can convince the lovely Miss Sheridan Crane of just about anything.”
“Have you used this mask before?” Hank asked. He had a sinking feeling the answer would be `yes'. He also was beginning to wonder if maybe he'd gotten himself into something he shouldn't have, but kept all concern from appearing on his face.
An evil grin appeared on Faux Luis' face. “I must admit. I was responsible for convincing Sheridan to go to Paris. The poor girl accidentally overheard me on my phone a few months ago. If she'd only not been so nosy, none of this would have happened.” Faux Luis did such a perfect job of imitating Luis' voice, that Hank had chills.
“That explains why Sheridan was so mad at Luis and he had no idea what he was talking about” Hank muttered to himself. “So what are you planning on doing this time?” Hank asked hesitantly. He wasn't sure he wanted to hear the answer to the question he just posed, but knew he was in too deep now to back away.
“An encore performance Jack!” Frank announced with pleasure. “Only this time Sheridan will NEVER forgive Luis for what she hears. “And poor Officer Lopez-Fitzgerald will find his life quite different after today. Now, I need you to drive us to the Crane Cabin. That is where they are as we speak. It's time for the performance of my life!”
Hank managed a small smile as he started the engine and backed out onto the main road. He took apiece of paper on it from Frank and followed the directions to the cabin. He listened to Frank as he explained to him, what part he would play in destroying the lives of his best friend and the girl he loved.
***************************
Antoine, Roger and Pierre were making their way out of Harmony, deciding what they should do about their clothing dilemma. The three men exchanged ideas and fought back and forth in their native tongue. They were getting further away from Harmony they soon realized, as houses were becoming scarcer. “Where are we going to find anything out here?” Roger commented.
“What would you suggest Roger?” Antoine asked with sarcasm. “Would you like me to turn around and return to the Police Station in town and ask, “Excuse me? My two friends here just escaped from the hospital where they were under Police Guard and they don't have any clothes. Do you think you could get their clothes for them so they can make their getaway under less suspicion?”
Roger and Pierre both shot Antoine an angry look. “Of course not!” Roger sneered. “I am just saying that...”
“Bang!” There was a loud noise and then a rumble. Antoine held onto the steering wheel tightly as the car tried to get away from him.
“Damn!” Antoine yelled, as he slowly pulled the car over to the side of the road.
“Que ce c'est?” Roger asked excitedly.
“The tire. I believe we have a flat tire” Antoine announced as he shut the engine off.
“We need to get out of here now” Pierre yelled anxiously. “If anyone sees us stopped here they may try to help us. We will then not be able to explain out appearance.”
“Oui Pierre” Roger agreed nodding. He looked around at his surroundings and noticed there were woods surrounding them on both sides. “We will go into the woods. We should be safe there for the time being,” Roger explained. “Maybe we will even find a cabin where we can get another car.”
The three criminals deserted the stolen car and began their trek into the woods. Each took a deep sigh and hoped they would find something to help them in their escape.
****************************
Sheridan lay on top of Luis with her face buried in his chest. They were gasping for air as they'd just finished another session of untamed lovemaking. Sheridan had her arms wrapped around Luis shoulders and gently used this leverage to slide her body up, so her face was right above Luis'. She smiled at him. Her smiled broadened ten fold as she watched him grin back at her. “I love you, you wild thing you!” she said rubbing her nose against his.
“Wild thing?” Luis asked in surprise. “You are calling ME `wild thing'? Luis laughed. “Oh, Sheridan, you have it all wrong. If anyone is going to be called `wild thing' it's going to be you!” Luis kissed her passionately on the mouth.
Sheridan grinned through the kiss. “No way, Luis. I said it first!” she said playfully.
“Yeah, but it fits you perfectly Sheridan” he argued with a sparkle in his eye. He kissed her again and then added softly, “I love you too, Sheridan.”
After a moment of gentle kissing Sheridan wrapped herself tightly around Luis. “Luis I've never felt safer or happier in my life” she announced joyfully. She lowered her head and partially slid to the side, trying to nuzzle into the crook of Luis' arm.
Luis lifted his arm making this possible for Sheridan. “I feel the same way, Sheridan” Luis agreed. “I love the feeling of having you in my arms. I'm happy knowing no harm can come to you. I love you Sheridan and I promise I will never let anyone or anything hurt you again.”
Sheridan smiled contently. She snuggled in as close as she possibly could and sighed happily. “I never want to leave this bed. If I died right now, I'd die happy. This is the most wonderful feeling I've ever experienced.” Sheridan tilted her head so she could look deeply into Luis' luscious brown eyes. Her own eyes were shimmering in the dim light from the moon and stars shining through the windows.
“Luis” she said after a few moments of gazing lovingly at the man she adored, “I feel the need to tell you something.”
“Yes” he said grinning as he kissed her forehead tenderly.
“Do you remember what I told you in Paris about the Fortuneteller and my fate? That I would never find happiness? Or ever had a family of my own?”
“Yes, I remember” he said quietly. He was a little disappointed she was bringing this up right now.
“I wanted to tell you that I now concur with your analysis of the situation” she said seriously. “I now know it was just a waste of money because at least part of her prediction has been dispelled. I know now that I have found true happiness.”
Luis felt a sudden warmth overtake his body. What Sheridan had just shared with him made him the happiest man in the world. His mouth contorted into a grin he had no control over, nor did he want to. “I feel the same way Sheridan” he replied. “I also hope soon, to help you change the rest of that prediction.” His eyes were smiling at her in a way that caused a tear to escape. She caught her breath at the thought of having a real family with Luis.
“There is nothing in this world I would rather do than prove that gypsy wrong Luis. Only now, I must admit I'm being rather picky. I only want to prove her wrong if it's with you. I can't imagine this happiness with anyone else” Sheridan admitted.
“Sheridan, we have a lot of things we will come up against in order to build a future together. There are quite a few people in Harmony that don't like the idea of us as a couple. Like your brother Julian for one” he said.
“And Beth” Sheridan frowned.
“And Hank” Luis said.
“And my father” Sheridan said sadly. “I don't even think your mother will be pleased Luis.”
“Mama always told us love was all that mattered, but I will admit she was concerned about my getting involved with you” Luis said thoughtfully. “She warned me a while back to break things off before I fell in love with you. It's too late for that now, Sheridan.” Luis was now smiling. “And I believe she will be our biggest supporter when the time comes. You know she loves you as if you were one of her own, don't you?”
“I love her too, Luis. She gave me the only love I had as a child in a loveless home. I find it ironic that the man of my dreams would turn out to be her son” she said quietly.
“Just remember one thing Sheridan” Luis said in all seriousness, “I love you with all my heart and there is nothing or no one that will ever change that. So if you ever doubt that love for any reason, you need to tell ME! Let's not let our pride and stubbornness get in the way again.”
“I promise, Luis. You have proved your love to me in so many ways tonight. I'm ashamed of myself for ever having doubted you” she said sorrowfully.
“Sheridan, don't beat yourself up over this. You have been hurt badly in the past by other men” Luis stated. “I only hope you now trust me enough to realize I WILL NEVER treat you in the same manner!”
“Luis, I trust you with my life” Sheridan said. “From now on, I will never doubt you, no matter what I think I see or hear.”
Luis smiled and he kissed her sweetly on the forehead. He pulled her tightly against him and playfully growled. Sheridan giggled. “Luis!”
“Yes?” he laughed.
“You are in an especially playful mood right now” she said giddily.
“I'm just happy” he replied. “I'm happy to be here with you. He kissed her gently on the lips.
Sheridan returned his kiss, which soon escalated into something more passionate. It didn't take long before they were lost in the moment. After a few minutes they both were jolted into an upright position, however, as they heard a loud bang outside. Sheridan felt a sudden surge of fear flow through her body. “What was that?” she asked.
“It sounded like a car backfiring to me” Luis said. They then heard a softer bang. “That sounds like a car door closing.
“Why would anyone be coming here at this hour?” Sheridan asked. “No one knows we're here, that I'm aware of and no one in my family has any reason to come here tonight.”
“Tina knows we're here” Luis reminded her. “Maybe something has happened and she needs to tell me. Sheridan, you stay here. I'm going to check it out.” Luis quietly climbed out of bed and put on his pants and shirt. He didn't bother putting his socks on, just slipping into his shoes and he left his shirt un tucked, just buttoning a few buttons, carelessly. “If I'm not back in five minutes call 911.”
“Luis you're scaring me” Sheridan said as the 911 remark was causing her to think the worst.
“Good. It's meant to scare you” Luis said seriously. “If it's Tina and she needs to talk to me or something, I'll let you know right away. If it's someone who means us no harm, they will understand if I come tell you everything is all right. Otherwise, there is a reason to call 911.”
Luis gave Sheridan a quick, but passionate kiss. “Don't forget where we left off” he grinned.
Sheridan forced a smile as she watched Luis leave. She didn't know why, but a nagging feeling told her something was terribly wrong. Once Luis left the room, she climbed out of bed and searched the room for some clothes. The first thing she found was a pair of Ethan's sweats and she quickly put them on. She was extremely nervous as she began praying that Luis would return within the allotted five minutes.
Luis opened the door to the cabin and saw nothing. He walked outside, looking for the car he was sure he'd seen. He saw nothing. He began to walk around the perimeter of the cabin when he spotted it. He began walking towards the car. That was the last thing he would remember, as at that moment he was hit from behind and knocked unconscious.
****************************
Hank and Frank stood above Luis. Frank held his hand up and smiled victoriously.
Hank looked shocked. “How did you do that?” He asked.
“Martial arts” Frank replied in Luis' voice. “You should try it sometime. Now help me drag him around back.”
Hank and the impostor dragged Luis out behind the cabin. Once they had settled, Hank noticed that Frank was wearing the same shirt and pants Luis was wearing. “How did you know what he'd be wearing?” Hank asked.
“I told you before” Frank said somewhat annoyed. “Mr. Crane will not accept failure this time. Sheridan had to believe I am Luis. It's just a shame that poor Sheridan is now going to have her heart broken yet again. Especially after spending such a romantic evening with her lover boy.” Frank's imitation of Luis was now getting on Hank's nerves. He knew it wasn't Luis, but hearing HIS voice speak this way was unnerving.
“What are you talking about?” Hank asked.
“Did I forget to tell you?” Frank said evilly. “It seems that your good buddy Officer Lopez-Fitzgerald just finished making love to the woman of your dreams.” He was now laughing, a satanic quality to it.
At this point in the conversation, Hank wasn't even surprised or upset upon hearing that Luis had made love to Sheridan. He WAS upset by the fact that this man impersonating Luis knew. 'I guess Alistair Crane is as bad as I feared,' Hank thought. 'How could a man spy on his own daughter like that?' Hank was now regretting everything he'd done since last night. His mind was racing, as he tried to think of a way to make things right and not let Frank know he was backing out.
“Oh really?” Hank said annoyed. “And how do you know they just made love?”
“Big Daddy knows all” Frank grinned. “Sheridan will be all yours in a few minutes Jack. Then I will come back to finish off my double here.” He walked off towards the cabin leaving Hank alone with Luis, fear running through Hank's body. Frank was muttering to himself, as if an actor practicing lines for a show. Hank looked down at an unconscious Luis and shook his head.
“I'm so sorry buddy” he said. “I'll do my best to make this up to you. I swear I will.”
************************************
Antoine, Roger and Pierre walked aimlessly in the woods. They were looking for something, anything that would assist them in their escape. Roger was becoming extremely irritable, as his pain medicine had worn off by now. The bullet he took to the shoulder had been removed, but the memory very fresh in his mind.
Antoine stopped for a moment and looked around. “Antoine, we have no time for this. We must find a car and clothing as soon as possible. We cannot risk being in Harmony when the sun comes up.”
Antoine smiled. “Voila!” He waved his hand in the air and pointed to what he was seeing.
Roger and Pierre also grinned when they saw what Antoine had. A large cabin dimly lit in the distance. It also appeared there was a car parked on the side of the cabin. “Tres Bien Antoine” Roger said patting him on the back.
They continued their hike, this time very carefully, as they didn't want to be seen. As they inched closer they saw two men talking outside. They carefully hid behind trees as they moved forward, not wanting to draw attention to themselves from the other men. Eventually, one of the men started walking away from the other. Antoine, Roger and Pierre stood still in their current position and watched what was happening. As the one man continued to walk forward, a huge grin appeared on Roger's face. “Mon Dieu!” Roger exclaimed with delight. “Antoine, you are armed? Oui?”
“Of course Roger” Antoine assured him pulling the gun out from his holster.
“Tres bien!” Roger said nodding his head in approval. “This is our lucky night mon amis! It is our lucky night.”
Antoine and Pierre weren't sure at first why Roger was so excited, but the closer they crept toward the cabin, the more they understood. Walking to the door to the cabin was none other than Sheridan's American cop boyfriend, Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald.
***************************************
Sheridan waited the full five minutes and then some. She didn't want to jump the gun, so she decided to give Luis a few more minutes. She looked out the window from the bedroom, hoping to see something, but all she saw was the sky filled with stars and the moon. After an extra three minutes had passed she decided to make her way to the living room and call 911. Her heart was pounding as fear engulfed her body. She was petrified that something terrible had happened to Luis and couldn't stand the thought of losing him again. Her heart had been broken once before by him, or what she thought was him. Now they had settled their differences and she was more in love with him than even she could believe. If he was hurt, or worse... As she was about to open the bedroom door she heard the front door to the cabin shut. She felt a wave of relief and she smiled. “Oh, Thank God,” she whispered, as she opened the door and walked into the living room.
Sheridan appeared in the living room as she saw Luis on the telephone. She smiled and began walking toward him when she suddenly stopped dead in her tracks. Luis was talking to some unknown person and Sheridan couldn't believe her ears.
“Oh yeah,” Faux Luis laughed. “It's working better than I'd ever expected. I thought my plan had completely failed when she had me arrested, but the poor girl felt bad about it” Faux Luis laughed evilly.
Sheridan was visibly sickened as she listened to this conversation. It felt like déjà vu of that night on the wharf.
“I'll tell you, encouraging me to go to Paris was a stroke of genius... Yeah, I think that`s what helped me rebuild her trust... I almost feel sorry for her. She really isn't like the rest of her family. And she's great in the sack too!....(More wicked laughing)”
Sheridan was numb at this point. Tears were flooding her face as she watched the man she loved shatter her dreams in a few short minutes. Her head was spinning and questions kept running through her mind. `Why would he do this to me? How could he do this to me? I don't understand any of this. Again, he's like two different people. What was all that talk about trust? How could he write that inscription on the compact?' She continued listening to him, as she was frozen in place.
“Very soon I will have all I need from her... I know my mother will be disappointed, but when I find out the truth, she'll understand... Hey trust me, will you? Sheridan Crane will do anything I ask her to. I have her completely under my spell... What are you crazy? Me fall for a Crane? NEVER! I told you, she's pretty to look at and she's got a GREAT body, but that's it. I'll have fun with her until I get what I am after. Nothing more. I don't think Beth would like that too much anyway! “ (More evil laughter)
Sheridan could not believe what she was witnessing. Her mind kept saying, `If I hadn't heard it with my own ears, seen it with my own eyes, I never would have believed it. But I am seeing it and hearing it. Aren't I?' This looked like Luis and sounded like Luis, but there was something very unfamiliar about him. It was as if she was watching a complete stranger.
Suddenly she heard Luis' voice in her head. “Just remember one thing Sheridan,” Luis said in all seriousness, “I love you with all my heart and there is nothing or no one that will ever change that. So if you ever doubt that love for any reason, you need to tell ME! Let's not let our pride and stubbornness get in the way again.”
“I said I would tell him,” she muttered under her breath. “I'm not running away from him again. Let's see Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald get out of this one.”
“Hey, I gotta go or Sheridan will wonder where I've been. “Remember, say nothing.... OK, bye.” The fake Luis hung up the phone and turned around to see a very hurt and very angry Sheridan standing before him.
