![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Skate Date
![]() (Remember the incident at the skating pond when Charity fell through the ice? That was also the night that Sheridan went on a date with Hank and Luis went skating with Beth. Well, since I've always hated the thought of Hank and Sheridan together and the date was based on a misunderstanding, I decided to redo the end of "The Skate Date." This is VERY short and was also my first attempt at a fan fic.)
![]() ![]() Everyone was gathered around the ambulance that had finally arrived at the pond. Charity and Miguel were in the back of it together, as the paramedics worked on trying to warm them up. Dr. Russell was with them, instructing the paramedics what to do. Pilar meanwhile had arrived and was standing next to Luis, Hank, Beth and Sheridan.
"Luis how did this happen?" Pilar asked
"You know that sign is always being knocked down, Mama", Luis explained. "Charity is new here and didn't know about the thin ice. She fell in, and then during the rescue attempt, Miguel fell in trying to save her. The same thing almost happened to Sheridan earlier, but I got to her in time." Luis turned and gave Sheridan a long look, remembering their encounter on the ice.
Remembering Sheridan telling him she didn't think she could live her life without him anymore. Sheridan was staring right back, her eyes twinkling as she gazed at him with the slightest of smiles on her face. Hank and Beth noticed every look the two shared. 'Luis, enough already, you can't do this to yourself anymore!' he thought to himself. Luis continued, "I'm surprised no one warned her, though. Certainly her cousin Kay knew about the ice being thin there. Well, it's just a good thing they will both be o.k."
"Yes Luis it is a good thing" Pilar replied. "I'm going to the hospital with Miguel."
"I'll give you a ride Pilar" Sheridan quickly responded. "My car is right here."
"Thank you Sheridan. That is very nice of you", Pilar answered.
Upon hearing this, Hank became visably upset. "But Sheridan, we're on a date remember?" he whined.
"I remember, Hank. But the date ended the minute those kids fell through the ice".
Sheridan's voice was friendly, but somewhat annoyed at the same time. She was thinking that Charity falling through the ice saved her from having to kiss Hank. 'Thank God she's o.k.' Sheridan thought. 'Otherwise I would hate myself for being happy about an interruption like that. Come on Sheridan, you are a big girl, now. You know you can't keep leading Hank on like this. You know you have no feelings for him... like you do Luis. Oh, Luis, if only...' Sheridan's gaze went back to Luis. She realized that he was looking at her. She felt her heart start to race as she looked into his eyes. 'I swear, he can see right into my soul... Sheridan, snap out of it' she thought. She then turned back to Pilar.
Sheridan was about to speak, but Hank wasn't going to give up that easy. Hank moved in close to Sheridan. Sheridan's body tightened. She knew what he wanted. She bit her lip. Beth, Pilar and Luis watched what was about to unfold. Luis was watching very carefully, and Beth and Pilar were more interested in watching Luis' reaction.
'Oh no' Sheridan thought. 'What am I going to do now'? Her mind was racing. 'Come on Sheridan. You can do this! You need to let him know how it really is. If you don't...'
Hank moved in still closer to Sheridan. He was now invading her personal space. He had a big grin on his face. 'Now is my chance to show up Luis' he thought. "Sheridan is MINE!! ALL MINE!!! Ha! This is going to be the best night of my life!'
"Sheridan, remember, it's now Valentine's Day gorgeous" Hank grinned. "How about that kiss you promised me?" Hank smiled a triumphant smile, glancing quickly at Luis, just to make sure he was watching. Hank leaned in for his kiss, but Sheridan turned her head just enough so that he would miss. She did however lean into him and whispered in his ear. "Hank, sorry, but there isn't going to be a kiss, now or anytime in the future. Sorry, Hank." Sheridan backed away. He face was expressionless. She breathed a sigh of relief. 'I did it!' she said to herself. 'I actually did it!' She then turned to Pilar, careful not to look at Luis. She was now smiling. "Ready, Pilar?" she said with voice that showed the strength she had just found.
Luis stood there, trying hard not to grin. 'What did she just say to him?' Luis thought to himself. 'Well judging by the look on Hank's face, I imagine he's not getting that "kiss.' Luis turned his head away from everyone, so they couldn't see the smile that had taken it over. Then he remembered what Beth had said to him earlier in the evening. "Looks like your buddy is going to make his move. I know Hank really likes Sheridan, but I don't know how she feels about him. I guess if she kisses him we'll get our answer." She didn't kiss him!!! Oh, God, Beth! I almost forgot!' Luis put on his cop face again and turned back to Beth.
Beth was standing there looking at Luis. She knew. She could see it in his eyes. "Well I guess we all got answers tonight, now didn't we?" She faked a smile, but Luis could see the pain in her eyes. He'd never meant to hurt Beth. But then again, he'd never felt the way about Beth that he felt about another. "Luis you need to be with your brother. Hank will take me home, won't you Hank?" She moved away from where she was standing near Luis and moved next to Hank.
Hank was still reeling from everything that had happened. He had been beaten by Luis again. He glared at his best friend. Hank's eyes held a look that Luis had never seen before. What was that look, hate? No it couldn't be? "Yeah, sure Beth, I'll take you home" Hank responded. He then turned his back on Luis and he and Beth walked off into the dark.
The three of them stood in silence as they watched Hank and Beth leave. Sheridan was beginning to feel nervous. She could feel Luis watching her. She didn't want to look at him, as she always felt like she was going to fall when he looked at her. Pilar broke the ice. "What just happened here?" she asked Sheridan.
"It was nothing, really" Sheridan replied with a nervous laugh. "Hank was just assuming too much from our relationship. I needed to staighten things out before there was another mixup." With that statement Sheridan's glance moved from Pilar to Luis. She felt herself starting to shake. Her insides were in knots. Luis looked at her, one eyebrow lifted as if to say, "Go on, lets hear it" She then quickly turned back to face Pilar.
"Mixup? I don't understand, Sheridan." Pilar questioned .
Sheridan continued nervously talking to Pilar, but knowing Luis was hanging on every word that she uttered "Hank bought me flowers this morning and left them on a bench at the Youth Center. There was a note attached to them asking me to go out with him tonight. The note wasn't signed, and I agreed, because I thought they were from someone else." Sheridan's voice faultered as she spoke the last sentence. She made a very quick glance at Luis as she spoke and saw he was still looking at her now donning a slight smile on his face and a glint in his eyes. She quickly turned back to Pilar.
"Hank then walked up behind me and I didn't want to hurt his feelings, so I kept the date. Unfortunately, I think I hurt someone else instead." Sheridan's gaze fell to the ground and her voice had a sad note to it.
Pilar looked away from Sheridan towards Luis. She saw a passionate look in his eyes she'd never seen in her son's eyes. "I was wrong" she thought to herself. "It's too late to stop Luis from falling in love with Sheridan. He's already in love with her." Pilar just shook her head and turned back to Sheridan. "I'm sure he will understand, Sheridan. He is a very forgiving man."
Sheridan looked up at Pilar and thought 'she knows! I never said who...' Pilar threw Sheridan an understanding look, but also one of fear. "I just don't want to see anyone else get hurt Sheridan. Be careful, please?" Pilar begged. Her eyes moved from Sheridan to Luis and back to Sheridan. 'Here we go' she thought shuddering at the thought of what Julian and Alistair would do. 'The war has started.'
"I think it's time we left for the hospital, don't you, Pilar?" Sheridan asked in an upbeat way. Now taking in a huge breath, she asked, "Luis, Are you coming too?" Sheridan held her breath waiting for his response.
"Of course I'm coming", Luis answered. His head was tilted slightly to the side, and he flashed Sheridan a smile. He looked at Sheridan in a way that made her go weak at the knees. She returned the smile, her sparkling blue eyes locked with his gorgeous brown ones.
She couldn't help it, but she let out a little laugh. Luis moved towards Sheridan, never breaking their eye contact. "Shall we?" he asked still grinning from ear to ear. Luis offered both Sheridan and his mother an arm, but his gaze never left Sheridan's eyes. His smile continued much more subdued now. The three of them walked off into the night...
The End
